now, do you think he'll also say sorry for backing down on the whole "no lobbiests on my staff" promise?

this one i will call him on.

as someone who was really "hoping" to see "change" in the whitehouse, i found his choice to back down from his initial stance on this topic to be very disappointing. i think this was an important stance both symbolically and in a very real world way as i think everyone in this country sees lobbyists, special interests, and pork spending all going hand in hand.

disheartened to say the least.

I think the reality of it is very striking ... you can't throw a rock in dc without hitting at least two lobbiest ... to go in thinking you could exclude them from our staff is ignorant at best ... HOWEVER ... if he can/could pull it off, it would have changed the culture in DC significantly enough to actually change people's impressions of DC politics in a possitive direction.

We would like to think our polititians are free of external influences (other than their constituents) ... here was a (lost?) chance to prove it.

my thoughts exactly... and precisely why i was disappointed to see him reneg on this.

Again - admitting it does nothing. Taking full responsibility does..... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Perhaps it takes people's mind off the error.... "Oh, look - he's not like Bush, he admits he "screwed up." Let's forgive him."

Apologizing isn't leading people. Its pandering. Mr. President..... don't you have better things to do than apologize for something so minor?
Make a mistake. Get criticized for making it even though everybody makes mistakes and Obama doesnt have Daschle's tax records.
Take responsibility for mistake. get criticized for pandering.
Apologize for mistake. Get criticized for not spending your time doing someting more important.
I see a trend here. I'm betting that nothing and nobody are perfect enough for you.

Obama's mistake wasn't in not knowing Daschel's tax problems ... it was in marginalizing it and saying it was okay.

I was unaware that Obama "marginalized" anything about Daschel's tax problems. Can you point me to where/when he did that? [<--Not a smart-assed question.]

Yeah, I voted for him? What of it? I also admitted that I'd made a mistake.

Here, Obama's in for less than two weeks and he feels it necessary to go on TV and say "I screwed up"?!?! Yeah..... what leadership, what tact. I can here the world laughing right now.
people like you will never be happy, obama cured cancer, you " he took long enough" just get over it, MY guy won :nana:

and i'd rather someone admits a mistake then someone who can't think of a single mistake when they were in office

"Tom made a mistake, which he has openly acknowledged," Obama said Tuesday. "He has not excused it, nor do I. But that mistake and this decision cannot diminish the many contributions Tom has made to this country."

If he had stopped at the first sentence ... I would be okay with that ... but the second sentence is used to temper the first ... what he did was bad ... BUT ... then he goes on and say ... Tom's still my man and I'm standing behind him. That's great if you want to prove your loyalty and support, Bush did that a lot and got hammered for it. But if you want to build a legacy of clean ethics ... then you got to set the bar high and not stray from it. Do not make "exceptions to the rules" and do not make "waivers" for certain people and you do not hedge on your promises.

The Lightworker seems to be working in the dark, so far. I'd love to see Obama succeed in leading America to greater strength, more security, and economic recovery, but in his first three weeks he's really screwed the pooch. :p

Christ...if this is the worst thing we'll be arguing about with the Obama Administration I'd be phucking ecstatic. This administration has a huge task ahead and this bickering isn't going to solve any of the major problems we face.

Its just the Reps turn to go on the attack after 8 years on the defensive. And its Dems turn to enjoy the limelight of a charismatic, well spoken leader, so we're enjoying it. This in turn gives the Reps some penny-ante BS to complain about. Its the circle of life.

charismatic & well spoken != leadership.

just sayin

I don't know you well enough or long enough to have known whether or not you were one of the "not my president" crowd. That notwithstanding, I respect your last post.

I was being serious. I was unhappy with the last guy, but he was still the leader of our country. Doesnt mean i didnt complain about his actions, but he was still "the man".
