Yet Another Turn Signal (Rear) question

I've been lurking/reading here since I decided on an SV650S, which I just picked up last Saturday. I love the bike so far, it's great. Super clean, nice accessories, great mileage, great service history. Handles nicely, mostly comfortable.

Thing is, with the fender eliminator, it's also got an integrated rear tail/brake/signal light. I don't feel the signals are bright enough, and/or attract enough attention of people behind me.

Here's a 3/4 view from the back:

I was just going to re-connect the original OEM rear signals onto the license plate bracket, but the Leo Vince high-mount exhaust is right smack in the way of the right signal.

What are other people's experience with fitment of signals with a high-mount exhaust? Are the Rizoma Zero-Elevens short/stubby enough to fit under the rear without getting melted (the exhaust really isn't that hot).

I'm contemplating fabbing up some sort of mount for the right signal off of the muffler hanger bracket, but I'm pretty sure that my foot would eventually remove whatever I bolted there as I mount/dismount.

the other question is, if I just took the stalks off of the stock signals, they'd most likely fit, but would there be an issue running incandescent and LED signals at the same time? I haven't got into the wiring schematics yet, but are there separate front/rear flasher units?

Thanks,

I just got some Rizomas in and will be installing them next week with a Leo high mount. If no one has chimed in yet, I'll let you know how it goes. Or if it's more urgent, I can try to place my FE next to my exhast and see if it'll fit (FE hasn't been mounted yet so it'd be guesswork.)

Based on bimmer's SV thread in the other section (http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=144796), it IS possible. You just have to look for small signals.

One option is to place LED strips on the side of your tail and make those turn signals. I don't know if you'd like that or not.

Mkay. I'll try to get it done Monday afternoon.

My weakness is that I have no clue how to remove the tail pieces :p Last time I tried, I failed miserably. On the bright side, someone posted a nice tutorial recently so hopefully all goes well.

Another option that I remembered.. is that you can mount flushmounts onto the tail. I have never seen integrated tail signals in person so I don't know how bright they are relative to the flush mounts.

Rizomas are definitely the best option though :) Will try to get it all done ASAP!

interesting, I like those L-brackets, but my clearances seem a little tighter. the FE brings the plate up pretty high.

Here's some test fitting I did tonight, I used a hacksaw and a drill. Not pretty by any means, but until I find something I really like (Rizomas, so far) and a good way to mount them, I will just use this GhettoFab™ setup.

some quick'n'dirty hacksaw action, and a couple holes drilled in some angle aluminum:
I decided to use two bolts, basically because of the elongated hole in the license plate bracket. two bolts keeps the light bracket from rotating.

Here's the test fit showing clearance around the signal. it's close, but should be far enough away to not get harmed by any heat.

The only thing I really don't like, is that the signals are aimed up at the same angle that the FE plate bracket has, rather than straight back. Most circumsances, since most eyes are above that level, it should be fine, especially good for people who are following too close. far away, I almost think the very end of the exhaust cannister might block the right signal a bit.

I might try and see what I can do tomorrow as far as re-wiring the OEM signals, so I can get them connected. Depends on the weather, sort of.

How short can the Rizoma stalks be made? I think a really good layout would be a small bracket on the backside of the license plate bolts, so the signal angles up towards the tail, but yet still inside the exhaust cannister.

can they be "flush" mounted? I'd be willing to mount them to the underside of the tailpiece if they can.
