Since it might possibly rain (or at least sprinkle) for the first time in about 9 months, I decided to set up my SV for winter riding comfort. Because, well, the temperatures might drop into the low 50s.
You put that big ass fairing on for 50 degree weather? If it were 50 degrees right now, I would be in a t-shirt laying by the pool. Oh how I envy the problems of southerners.

Some people handle weather differently. When i lived up north, i too thought 50° was shorts and t shirt weather. But now that ive been in fl for 10 years...50 is just about frigid, especially on a bike.

Installed new copper crush washers on my brake lines, swapped master cylinder, re-bled whole brake system. Feels good, but we'll see if air creeps back in.

took the tail apart to do the comp werkes fender eliminator. found i didn't have spare pushpin things so couldn't get it back together. also didn't have the right kind of plate bracket (i like my arrow turn signals) so ordered one on fleabay

then put on the oem smoke touring windscreen (taller)

i need to stop slacking, and finish all my work projects asap. then i'll have time to finish the bikes. but of course i had to start playing GTA V...

I thought about it and how i miss it.

so much controversy about winter storage i cant take it!!!
There are several reasons why you shouldn't start a stored bike in the winter if you're not going to actually be riding.

First, you're not doing the battery any favors. Your battery tender is already keeping it charged. All you're doing is draining the battery slightly by cranking the starter motor.

Secondly, if you're only keeping it running a few minutes, all you're doing is creating condensation in the cooling process (think about the drips of water you see spitting out of exhausts in cooler temps). Now, condensation is produced every time we ride and it cools down. However, the difference is that when the engine is run for a longer period of time, all of the condensation from the previous cooldown is evaporated away. If you just run the engine for a few minutes and then cool it down, you're building up the water level in your exhaust and engine by creating condensation during cooldown and then incompletely evaporating each time you start it and let it run a few minutes. Over the course of an entire winter with weekly startups, this can really add up.

Now, these first two can be negated by keeping it running for a longer time. However, by keeping it running longer, you're using gas (even if a small amount), which creates a larger area of the tank not in contact with gasoline, thus increasing the chance for rust.

In the end, I can't think of a good reason to start your engine if you're storing your bike, but there are several reasons not to. Hell, even if you don't think there is anything to the reasons not to, can you think of a good reason to start the engine, assuming you have it on a tender?

To hear it go vroom vroom?

My SV, I put a cover on it as we are getting 7 inches of snow.

Finally took off the front master and clutch perch to send to Ofir for his build.

Not the SV and I totally agree with your reasoning so nicely explained above.:) But years ago when it was really nasty outside I'd trundle out to the garage and fire up the bike to fill the air with that wonderful Castrol R smoke. Yes...2 stroker.:) And if the SV exhaust smelled anywhere as nice, I'd fire mine up right now just to perfume the house. But it doesn't...unleaded fuel just stinks.:( Maybe I need some Race Gas! That stuff always smells great and the aroma therapy would help break the Cabin Fever here in the Frozen North.
