How much brake did you have to grab?

 

More like how quickly I grabbed it to keep from plowing a minivan. The initial grab at ~25 locked the front. I let go and grabbed again during the rebound. The dive combined with actually stopping and the front not spinning anymore levered the back wheel about a foot in the air. All cause I was looking at some trees. Eyes ahead boys and girls.

 

But I'll wager you impressed everyone within eyeshot with how quickly the SV can stop! This is SO much better than reading another 'I wrecked' thread. And good on you for remaining thinking and fighting through the entire encounter....if everyone reacted as well (even after the distraction that forced the extreme reaction) the whole Motorcycling World would be a better place.

Bought a Vapor Dash and a front sprocket cover for my new to me 2000 SV650 trackbike !

 

swapped the stock snorkel for the sv1000 snorkel. The throaty intake roar starting at around 6000rpm is delicious. The bike seems to spin up a bit faster now, but less torquey at low rpm (3000-4000). It's a keeper mod.

 

Adjusted my clutch cable, I like the friction point to kick in about a quarter inch from the bar.

 

Bagged a set of GS500F mirrors on eBay for $34.

 

Powder coated my levers and rad shoud thing and change my bars

Tightened and waxed the chain.
She's now ready for some winter riding.

 

Picked up some parts....

 

Wrapped a little duct tape around a tearing grip puppy until a replacement can arrive (day after tomorrow. ) I'd rip it off, but having grips of different diameters might be worse.

 

Went for a test ride on my leaning sidecar project:

Rides/drive fine, now to make a body for it so Bogart the dog can come along for rides.

yesterday I removed the POs hack aux light wiring harness, and installed a pre built harness for LED driving lights with a relay, and master switch (LED lights will get installed later).

I also built a small shelf on the bar to re mount my grip heater control and add the LED light switch.

Yes, this setup was designed for a Jeep, but since its LED the low current draw will work better then the crapshoot lights the PO had installed (last pic)...

I would have posted this yesterday, but I ended my day playing Star Wars TOR....

 

Replaced the fuse for my heated grips. Morning temps have been chilly (55) here in SoCal the last few days, and I was missing the hot hands...

I ditched the unreliable bulky HID headlights for LEDs! :rock:

The retaining clips and headlight boot needed modified, so what I thought would take ten minutes ended up taking an hour and a half. But, it's definitely worth it.

The light output is much better than my 35 watt HIDs, they don't blind oncoming traffic like the HIDs did, they're instant on, and they only draw 20 watts on lo and 30 watts on hi. Assuming they're more durable than my HIDs (which isn't hard), I'm happy with my purchase.

They're $60, 3600 lumens each, with hi and lo beams.

 

^ I think that deserves it's own writeup! We're always looking for more light output.

 

After I run them for a few months, I'll do a writeup. As of now, they're just an experiment. I still have an extra halogen bulb in my topcase just in case these sh*t the bed while I'm on the road.
