I purchased a gas tank and it was sent to me with the locked cap on, and no key!

Any ideas for me?

Get 3 or 4 blank suzuki keys and call a lock smith. He should be able to take out the gas cap assembly from the tank (via the allen screwns) and then should be able to make you a new key, but he may have to trash a couple to make it, hence the extra blanks. I had to have a guy do this on my ex's 250 ninja when she lost the key.

If you don't want to keep the lock assembly, drill it out.

Don't drill it deeper than what the key insertion depth is.

You should be able to take a screwdriver and twist the mechanism open.

You should also be able to get money for the rest of the assembly.
Most peeps overtighten the ring assembly and crack it when they remove it and reattach it.

The keylock part can be trashed.

You can practice you lock picking skills. I had to when I bought a spare hard case for the Buell. I asked the guy to unlock both of the locks, but he didn't. When I contacted him for a key, he told me to punt. So I picked the locks. Took me a good hour or two to get it done, but it worked.

You can get a cheap lock pick set those places that sell fireworks, swords, knives and jelly beans.

There's a store I pass when I travel for work. They sell swords, stun guns, fireworks, ninja gear (exact words they use), jelly beans (they are a Jelly Belly store) and candy.

An interesting combo for sure. I've never ventured in there, but I might have to. I mean, when I have a hankering for jelly beans and nunchucks...I know where to go.
