Received in the mail yesterday. I havent even installed them yet, but in the spirit of mod posts with no pictures or explanations I thought I would start the thread.

Ok, after a few days of finagleing with my digital camera and Photobucket I have the pictures and a short write up. Firstly, I ordered the 'High Fusion' set simply becasue the 'Snake Skin' style were on Backorder and I am impatient. As discussed elsewhere I went with TechSpec as they are a site sponsor, the items seemed reasonably priced, and the StompGrips (I have read) may be difficult to install/remove and may not be comfortable if you arent wearing leather pants/suit - again, this is just what I read here and elsewhere...Your results may vary!

The TechSpecs were delivered in about a week and are dead simple. Some rubber pieces with adhesive. 'High Fusion' is like a lightly textured rubber mat, I reckon the 'Snake Skin' may have a little more texture to it. The StompBGrips seem to have a good amount of knobblyness (little rubber buttons that protrude) and possibly wouldnt be comfortable for casual riding or for casual clothes riding that is.

Make sure the surface you are mounting to is clean and dry, and has some heat in it - either sit the bike in the sun or use a hair dryer or heat gun. Remember this is your fuel tank so be careful with the heat! Firstly I removed a strip of the backing from each TS pad so that I could mock up placement and position where I wanted them. Then using a graphics applicator 'squeegie' I started working out from the center while peeling the backing away. You can crease the TS pad so go slow. I was able to move the TS pad around once or twice when the placement didnt seem right or if I had left a bubble or a crease. Once applied on the warmed painted tank I gave the TS pad some more heat and applied firm pressure to help the adhesive bond. NOTE - You CAN melt the TS pad! Yes, in a moment of not paying attention I left the heat gun in one spot for a bit too long and it started to smoke and melt....since it wasnt applied all the way for some reason I tried to grab the edge of it and subsequently put my fingerprint right into the melted rubber/compound! Adds character I suppose, it isnt really noticable anyways, just use caution.

Riding on the SV with them shows that they do work. Hard braking I can easily squueze the tank and not slide forward in jeans. Hanging off I wouldnt say that it was an epiphany, but you do notice they are there - it isnt like super glue holding you in one spot, but it isnt as freely sliding as it was prior without them installed. Worth it? Sure, I like the added control and they were reasonable to buy and install, removal (I did remove one whole TS pad to reposition) left the paint in perfect condition and the adhesive still good. A true test would be to see how they come off after use, but I am not ready to do that yet.

Cheers, and thanks for waiting for the write up!

Very interested, I've been considering stompgrips for a while but lets be honest, they look like ass. These are a bit more obvious but they could look good, so if they work then that's a win win. I do like their honesty, they just say outright that some of their products aren't good enough for really hard riding.

interested to see the pics and write up!

you put a heatgun on anything too long it melts.

Just asked my dirtbike graphics.

I've had them for about a year on my bike, they're quite good, but for 1st gen people like me you have to cut your own so they don't look as pretty as they probably should.

the thing I like about them is that they're not annoyingly grippy, I've ridden on a bike with stomp grips and jeans and they tend to grab at your thighs too much, the tech spec grips are a good balance and they don't look too shabby. (they also have excellent customer service)

Northwind, did you ever wind up ordering a set?

As far as a ride report in general, for the money these seem to work as advertised. I do ride in jeans so by nature of the loose fit I do still move around a bit but there is definitely more control. Harsh braking and corner exit power wheelies dont see as much sliding back to front as I did without them.

Only note I would make is that I mightve placed them a little higher up, when I placed them I went off the lower edge of the tank for reference and after riding a bit it seems that I could use more of the TS material up near the point closer to my knees on the wider part of the tank.

I used Stomp all summer, so I thought I would chime in.

It's not difficult to install, you just need to take your time to really get all the air bubbles out. In jeans it's still comfortable, but anything thinner and you might get jabbed a little. I put clear stuff on my K7 as it doubled as a trackbike/street. For the track, I wouldn't use anything else - the way it grips the leathers is absolutely fantastic. This year I have a track-dedicated SV that I am putting stomp on, so I will be putting snakeskin Tech-spec on my street bike.

I hear the stomp is a PITA to remove, but we'll see for sure. I'm excited to try the tech-spec on the streetbike though, it sounds like a great compromise between grip & comfort.

Oh ... stomp is UGLY AS F#CK. That's another reason why I am looking at Tech-spec ;D
