Here is a summary of the different models of USD Radial forks used on the various Suzuki models.
Hopefully, this will concentrate all the dimensional information on the most popular SV/GSXR fork conversion possible configurations.

Let's start with the matrices for the dimensions of the various fork models:

Acknowledgments to Sam over at TL zone for initiating the primary chart creation and to all those who provided the data for it.

This excellent illustration courtesy of jeff721 will help indicate to what the measurements in the chart refer:

Of course, there are the non-radial USDs used on the 01-03 750 and 01-02 1000 but the Radial versions seem to be the most popular, so that is the focus of this post.

So - looking at the primary area of interest for GSXR Radial Forks:

2003/04 1000
Gold/black inner tubes; gold calipers
300mm rotors.
850 springs
32mm offset; 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2005/06 1000
Bronze/black inners; black calipers
310mm rotors
950 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Center ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2004/05 600/750 (same)
gold/chrome legs, gold calipers
300mm rotors
850 springs
30mm offset, 54mm lower clamp
Right offset ignition top clamp, 25mm bore

Image

2006+ 600
gold/ chrome leg, black calipers
310mm rotors
900 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

2006+ 750
black/ bronze leg
310mm rotors
1000 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

Image

Calipers:

03/04 1000 and 04/05 600/750 (fit 300mm rotors std)

* The 03 1000 calipers are 4 pads per caliper - look the same as the two-pad variant
No interchangeable re pads however

Image

All other GSXR models

Image

Yamaha Monoblock (R6)

Image

Caliper/Rotor Matrix:

Calipers can be utilized from all the models above, by using spacers* per this matrix.
* Note that although for some sizes it says N/A, this means the combo would be too tall;
however, you could actually machine the caliper (or fork leg stanchion) as opposed to a spacer

Image

Triple Clamps:

You can mix & match a bit here:
The ideal top clamp I believe would be the 04/05 600/750 clamp
This has ignition offset to the right (same as SV and more conducive to the Vee shape of the front of the speedo for naked)
It has a 30mm offset and a 25mm bore.
Direct fit on 04/05 l600/750 lower triple clamp/forks
To fit on 06+ 600/750 forks/lower triple, bore stem hole to 28mm
To fit on 05/06 1000 bottom triple, bore stem to 28mm

If you have no access to machining, then the 05-06 1000 top clamp will fit directly on the 06+ 600/750 steering stem. This clamp has ignition 'straight ahead. The steering lock WILL lock, albeit with the wheel straight ahead, as opposed to the conventional full left position.

06+ 600/750 top clamps obviously 'fit' their own forks/bottom triple, however, the ignition is offset to the left; it requires some machining of the ignition module to avoid interference with the frame on the left side and the steering lock will not function without drilling frame. This makes it a less ideal choice.

Bottom clamp:
03/04 1000 has 32mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
05/06 1000 has 30mm offset 54mm bottom fork dia and 28mm stem
04/05 600/750 has 30mm offset, 54mm bottom fork dia, and 25mm stem
06+ 600/750 has a 30mm offset, 53mm bottom fork dia, and 28mm stem

Note that 06+600/750 forks are 53mm at the bottom clamp diameter - the others above are 54mm; so consider that as you wish to mix/match bottom triples & forks.

Axles:

The wheels are comparable fitment for all 01+ GSXR;
However, the axles change with the fork generations;

For the first group of forks per the caliper table above (03-04 1000 or 04-05 600/750)
uses an axle & collar nut (same as SV1K actually)
Note that there is no additional wheel/axle spacer required.

Image

For the second group of forks (05+ 1000 or 06+ 600/750)
the axle has a threaded bolt, rather than a collar nut, with a separate spacer that goes between the wheel & right fork leg.

Image

Steering Bearings:

All GSXR forks in the range above have 30/55/17 top & bottom bearings.
All Gen 2 SV650 and SV1K are the same sizes also
Gen 1 SV650 is the same bottom bearing but requires a special top bearing from TWF Racing.

Wheels:

All GSXR wheels after SRAD will fit any GSXR forks described above
The rotors change sizes (and fitment) however

Image

Mix n Match Capability for Wheels/Rotors:

01-04 1000 and 01-05 600/750 and SV1K all are the same wheel dimensionally;
Will take 300mm rotors from 03-04 1000, 04-05 600/750;
Will take 310mm rotors from SV1K;
Will take 320mm rotors from any 96-03 600/750 or 01-02 1000 or TL, or Hayabusa

05-08 1000 and 06-07 600/750 take 310mm rotors only, from these years of the wheel only.

09+ 1000 and 08+ 600/750 take 310mm rotors only - note that these rotors are NOT compatible with the group immediately above & vice versa.

Standard GSXR forks have dowels, or at least the set I got recently did.

I forget, what forks? What triples? What shock?

#964 ·
Which top triple are you using? Could be the ignition isn't clearing the head. If it sticks, you'll tilt a little, push to countersteer to recover, then repeat. Don't ask me how I know.

Definitely ensure you're testing back and forth of the triples without a triple tree stand. Whether it may be the bearings or the clearance of the ignition, that's the easiest way to eliminate those as possibilities.

#965 ·
Ignition is far forward of the steering head so we're all good there. Bearings are brand new and the lower bearing was definitely driven 'home' as the sound went dull all round when tapping it down.

Forks: K4 1000
Calipers: r6 monoblocs (these cams with dowels but you have to remove them)
Lower Triples: K4 1000
Top yoke: Custom job by http://topyokes.uk
Shock: Standard SV1000 at the moment. In exceptional condition as the bike's only got 8k on the clock

I'm going to loosen everything south of the top clamp bolts and give the bike a good push down on the top yoke a few times, this seems to be the accepted method to line everything up.

Failing that, I want to get the forks serviced anyway so I could just plump up a bit more cash and roll the bike into a garage I know. But I'll wait to see what you guys say.

If the forks were bent, would this be a symptom? same with the triple/stem - although it all looks poker straight tbh.

#966 ·
The most likely bend in triple clamps is a twist between the two sides. If you remove the forks, try taking a very flat object, putting it across the bottom of the triples, and seeing if it rocks at all.

#968 ·
Something like that, yes.

Unrelated: does anyone have dimensions for 01-05 600/750 rear wheel? I'm trying to make a set of Carrozzerias fit my SV1000 and it's a PITA to pull the wheel off at home...

Can anyone tell me caliper bolt lengths for R6 calipers on 7mm spacers? I know they're M10x1.25 but don't have the length handy. I could measure the length of the caliper + spacer easily enough but I don't know how far into the fork they go.

#972 ·
I say you're gonna have to drill the ignition holes again, as you can see when it's flipped over - they're there already. You might find you simply don't have the room to drill more as the holes will likely go right through the thing. Not all that bad if you intend on using some nuts to secure the ignition bolts. Also, there's a recess for the ignition to sit in by the looks of it, bit hard to tell with it being black, though.

I think you're not gonna be able to use it properly.

#974 ·
Ignition hole fix is simple, drill through the plate and continue with tread all the way through. Portions of the treads that are visible on the top can be plugged or used for proper phone/gps mount.
I do not have ignition switch assembly handy, I do not want to take bike down yet, so I can not mock it up for definitive proof of concept.
BTW Another thing to alter is head hole, also relatively simple fix.

#976 ·
My impression is that it's too far over - when I had an 07 750 clamp I couldn't get it to lock at full lock right.

Does anyone know what the right size clamps are for holding headlights on 06-09 600/750? I imagine I'll have to measure but was hoping someone already had.

#978 ·
I'll have to measure as I'm not sure what the dimension is, was hoping someone knew for sure. It might even be tapered, I'll have to measure.

#979 ·
Am I right in thinking the Sv1000 triple clamp offsets are as follows:

N model: 25mm
S model: 30mm

With putting the K4 GSXR front end on (which has a 32mm offset) I've gained ~7mm (as mine is a naked). With the K4 GSXR forks being about 8mm shorter (I think?) then that'd equate to faster turn in, right?

I honestly can't even remember what the bike was like with the stock front end on anymore haha. What are peoples thoughts and real life experience, as I really better off adding a steering damper? I can't say the front end feels overly twitchy...

Hiya lads,

New to this site, so here goes.

I'm Sullie from Ireland, been driving an k3 sv650s for last 4 years, savage bike!!

Anyway ive been looking into doing the Gsxr front end swap and me thinks it's a better call than putting money into the stock forks(the seals are gone),

My question is,

Would a set of forks from a k6 gsxr 1000 fit? I've looked at the size guide and the c numbers seem similar to the 750 forks which I know fit,

Any help would be fantastic!!

Thanks
Sullie

Thou, all modern-ish GSXRs (00+ for sure, I think a while before that as well) use the same bearing sizes as Gen2 SVs.

There are plenty of other relevant things: fork length, offset, steering stops, ignition location.

Yes, a 2006 GSXR1000 front end will work. It should bolt up. On my SV1000 I had to slot the holes in the ignition switch a little bit so it didn't rub the frame. You'll have a steering lock, but it'll be centered (rather than full lock left). Steering stops work right. Fork length is reasonable, I'd prefer the 600/750 but it'll work.

You'll need basically a complete front end: forks, both triples with nuts, wheel, rotors, calipers, fender, clip ons, hopefully brake master, I might be forgetting some things too.

#984 ·
I know about the bearings, but we're not restricted to GSXR triples...but it makes no sense to not use them as it's such a straight forward swap. There's a bonkers amount of front ends that'll go on, in fact. It's a shame there's not a database out there with a list of common motorcycle's offsets, it can be a pain to find them online sometimes.

Hi guys. I know this is a little bit old thread but I need some help. I switched gixxer front end to my SV650 (K5). I've used K3 SV1000 wheel with rotors, K6 GSXR600 forks with axle. Now there comes the trouble. I can feel some wobble from the wheel while I am riding. At least it feels like it is somewhere from the axle. Wheel should be straight but I am considering it as a last option.
Does anyone know if I can use SV1000 wheel with K6-K7 gixxer axle or where can be problem?
I've also changed wheel and steering stem bearings to new. Can it be the problem that I've installed them wrong?

Please help me. ;D I am desperate :worship:

#987 ·
Hello all,

I've got a SV1000N and want to upgrade my front. I've found some nice GSXR 600 K6 USD forks and want to place them under my bike.
Yet I'm a little confused in what other things I need to change to make it fit.

Can anyone tell me this? I'd like to change a lot, yet in later stages (like other calipers etc.).

I can't ride now as one of my two forks are leaking oil (the inner fork is damaged so changing the rubbers won't last for long).

I've made up my mind and I wand a USD fork. I've found the one mentioned before.

Please help this newbee :vroom:

You need:
forks
triple clamps
clip ons (preferably with some rise) or a way of mounting handlebars
brake calipers, lines (I'd recommend master too)
fender
axle
spacers
a way of mounting your headlight/gauge

if you use an 06-09 600/750 top triple clamp, you won't have a steering lock
if you use an 05/06 GSXR1000 top clamp, you'll have a centered steering lock

you can reuse your stock front wheel and brake rotors

#991 ·
Thanks! Forks incl callipers are on the way. So I need:
  • Triple clamps (preferable use stock steering lock)
  • Clip ons, or reuse my stock handle bar (if triple clamps allow it)
  • Fender
  • Axle (my stock SV1000N doesn't fit?)
  • Spacers (for what exactly?)
  • A way of mounting my headlight/gauge (is now mounted to triple clamp)
Where are you located? Considering selling my AK-Gas GSXR600 front end. Fork extenders. Believe it’s 2008
The Netherlands, Europe :icon_biggrin:

#990 ·
how much were you thinking? that's a killer setup and I could use a front end with extenders.
