I use a 46" flat screen for both my computer monitor and my home theater system. The computer, a satellite box, and a PS3 (used as a blu-ray player) all feed into the theater system via HDMI cables (the computer has an HDMI socket for the video output). Now the satellite and blu-ray player both end up producing sound through the surround system (your basic 5.1 souround with front and rear stereo speakers, a center channel, and a sub woofer). But the sound from the computer plays through the monitor's speakers. So if I play music through my computer (wheter it is a CD, my iPod, YouTube, etc.) I get crappy TV speaker fidelity.
I've gone into the control panel and changed the sound output from the default Windows setting to 5.1 surround, but this hasn't changed anything. I've swapped cables and inputs and determined that the problem lies with the computer. So how do I configure the computer to actually make use of the surround system, rather than output a signal that's sent to the TV speakers?
