Gun shows are a total waste of time ... for the very few deals there, you do much better over the internet or at a dealer.

Ammo by the case is always the best option.

For play in my .45s I use a variety of low-cost ball ammo that uses quality brass. Federal makes a couple of lines under a discount name, including I think lawmen. Sportsman's guide did have it at one time.
Try some different cheap stuff and see what works and feeds the best for you.
My Colt series 70 with the Mahovsky action job, ported, polished, etc. will feed anything without fail. My WWI issued govt model needs hardball. My para LDA is good for everything I've tried so far, but the accuracy varies a great deal more that with my Colt.
There is no doubt the price is way up. I watch for sales in various catalogs and on-line sites.
However, the cheap stuff is not what I use when serious either about accuracy or defense.

Here in the southeast, I'd see if Georgia Arms goes to any shows around you. They're a commercial reloader and they have excellent prices on good quality stuff. Barring that, I'd order from Wideners or Natchez. They're both been excellent companies to deal with when I've ordered reloading supplies from them.

+1 to reloading your own. You can get set up on that for relatively cheap if you go with Lee equipment, and it works well if you take good care of it.

Avoid Cheaper Than Dirt, because the only dirt they're cheaper than is measured in carat weight.

9mm is fine against zombies. The trick is to keep things quiet, a .556 is probably a better weapon due to how easy ammo is to find and the fact you can get better range. I have a demo hammer and machette for close quarters and my CZ for medium range. I am thinking about making a M4 replica to match my current issue M4. Also a jeep would be nice as well as a dirt bike.

Precisely, I think my Ruger will make a fine Zombie sidearm. I as well have a machete..."blades don't need to be reloaded."

As far as your 5.56 point, I'd like one as well, but will have to make due with my 10/22. I figured that the lack of stopping power is made up by it's mobility, quietness, and the fact that I can carry double the ammo.

.22 and 9mm I buy but I reload my own .38, 357 mag and 44 mag ammo

The .22 (1) is bought, Federal bulk from Wally's and the rest are actual rounds I reload

I can reload if reusing the brass 10 times for the following cost:

(2 and 3) 38 target @ $0.09/rd
(4 and 5) 357 mag hunting @ $0.20/rd
(6) 44 mag hunting @ $0.22/rd

Here is the $30 DIY reloading bench I made
