Overall, I think it looks pretty good Pecha, and also pretty epic. I'm sure this isn't a final route, but if you're looking at tagging all 48, you're missing a few here.

The ones I noticed:
-Rhode Island (shouldn't be hard to add)
-Delaware (same)
-Michigan (just a short detour to the north)
-Kentucky (you just need to get across the river)
-Kansas (cut across into KC real quick, or take a small detour near Joplin)

I think your route looks pretty efficient, but two places I see that could cut some mileage are: 1) Cut through eastern Wyoming into NE Nebraska near Lusk, WY, then head NE on US/State highways through South Dakota and into the SE corner of N Dakota. This eliminates Iowa on the northbound portion, but could be easily tagged going from Minnesota into Wisconsin/Illinois area. 2) Find a way to tag Kentucky heading SW down the east coast, and you can eliminate the large jog north into Missouri (which also seems much longer than need be). If you do that, you can head directly for the Joplin area, passing through Arkansas from SE to NW, then end in the corner getting AR, MO, KS, and OK before heading west towards TX and NM to finish the route.

these are my main goals unfortunately
you shaved off even more miles :)
I modified my previous post a little bit, take a look, it's more similar to your route than originally
Fair enough, and the revisions look good. Glad I could help with some routing. Also interested in the when and what you plan to ride on for this. Best of luck.

Looks like you got everything in that one. I tweaked it a bit based on what I said above, take a look here.

It cuts out some slab in favor of more direct routes and revised the east coast routing a bit. I'm not sure what your travel goals are, so take it for what it's worth. It loses some total mileage, and probably includes some decent riding roads in the Badlands area, Kentucky/Virginia/NC/Tennesee area, and the Ozarks, but may add some time/delay that you don't want if slab and total speed is the goal.

8388 miles at 60MPH comes to about 140 hrs.
You plan to ride an average of 14 hours a day??

I don't think that is safe. According to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, even a seasoned rider doesn't ride for more than 6 hours a day. Maybe you should consider making it 48 states in 24 days.

6 hours a day is nothing for seasoned riders. Pecha puts on nearly as many miles as I do and he mountain rides and has a much smaller bike than I. I could easily see doing this on the VFR.

I see a 48 in 10 in my future, last year I did a BBG, 1545 miles from Newington, NH to Joplin MO in 23:05

this year my plan is a 50cc from Jax to SD, first I have to ride to Jax from NH and on the way back from SD, I plan on spending a day on the Cornado trail in AZ, total trip will be about 8k, plan is 10 days

I checked out your map, serious props for putting a trip like this together. If you have time (an extra hour) check out the 127 loop by Gloucester MA, excellent clamshacks everywhere, lots of history and great scenery right on the ocean bluffs.

Then instead of 128- 95 - 93s through the city...take 127 south along the coast to meet up with 1a..which runs by the coast. Much prettier ride and still a decent clip.

Once your decide you are done with scenic, all the highways are so close near the center of the city you can just start looking for signs to 93S or RT1 and jump on and head south to join back up with your route.

Good luck man!

I would stay away from I-95 in lower Connecticut, as well as the George Washington Bridge. Try this instead. CT-15, also known as the Merritt Parkway is much prettier than I-95, and much less prone to traffic jams. There are also no commercial trucks allowed. The Tappanzee bridge is also smoother sailing than the George Washington, which I once spent an hour and a half on.

I thought it was the only thing I changed, but I was zoomed in on the area I was speaking about, maybe my drag and drop had unintended consequences in Utah or something. As mentioned, the Merritt can be full of LEOs, but I always found that the flow of traffic was brisk, and there were always some people driving very fast, so let them get the tickets. When I moved from NJ to Maine, I had to take I-95 instead of the Merritt, and it added two hours to the trip, due to traffic. If you pass by NYC during rush hours (yes hours), you'll hit some serious traffic no matter the route you take, so plan acordingly.

thanks for pointing it out
I will probably go around it somehow. google maps is limiting me to number of waypoints and I'm maxed out now :(
I'll have a map, atlas and gps with me to fine tune the route on the go

same with CT route ForestGuy suggested

another thing you may want to do, is visit each state's DOT website to research proposed construction along your route

will you be documenting the ride for IBA certification ?

I should note that the second map takes the beltway around DC, which never actually crosses the border. It'll slow you down some (not a lot since the beltway is basically a parking lot, anyway), but you may want to consider cutting down into the District since you're going to be within a couple miles, anyway. Skyline Drive is worth going through, but, again, you won't be going 60 in it.

You're taking 90 thorugh NY eh? You'll be literally within 15 minutes of my house.

that's quite an aggressive goal man!

there'd better be a ride report on this sucker! Oh and say hi if you have time when passing through.
