What took you so long ? ? ?

Poor WSBK regulars. They finally get Bayliss off their back and some kid from Texas shows up and takes up where Troy left off (LOL)...

I take his time in AMA superbike with a grain of salt as he was on "the winning team". How much of it was the bike and the crew? Are you saying the only reason Suzuki has won 9 years out of the past 10 is Mladin and Spies?

Nope. I'm saying because of bike development, team experience & two top riders pushing each other to new heights which left me with no doubts that either could be very competitive on the world level on the right team and equipment...
Spies had 2 testing days at Philips Island. As far as I know he has never even been to Losail!

Those two would have won no matter what they were riding! The expression "class of the field" comes to mind. I just wish we could have watched Mladin on the world stage.

Back when Corser won the WSBK championship on the GSXR, Mladin was turning faster lap times on his US spec Yosh bike at Philip Island in winter testing.

There is no doubt in my mind that Yosh/Suzuki had a technical advantage sneaking Traction Control into the ECU programming before it was openly allowed in AMA racing. You could hear their engines sputter/cut coming out of corners hard on the gas. They did it within the rules, so no harm or foul in my mind.

That being said, I think Mladin and Spies could lead the field on any manufacturers bike. Yosh just made it that much easier.

The "only" reason, no. The biggest part of the reason, yes.
Really, that should be obvious. Neither Aaron Yates or Tommy Hayden, both AMA champions, were consistantly any better then the other factory superbikes when they were on the Yosh team. Only when Mat or Ben got on the bike did it disappear into the distance.
go Ben!! went to Longview high school too I might add!
Ive never really been a Spies fan... He is an excellent racer, no doubt, but there is just some air about him that I dont like. And whats with him flying the Texan flag on his bike instead of the American flag? Last time I looked we dont live in The United States of Texas!

I am a big Spies fan.
Obviously you aren't from Texas. We have a slightly different take on our state than most others have on theirs. Just so you know Texas is the only state that could break away and become its own country.

In AMA Mladin will push him all the time but in WSB his new team mate isn't giving him no competition at all.
Superpole done: Aprilia's are looking good.

What the heck happend to Neukirchner!

Might not want to put Superpole results in an existing thread as it could be a spoiler for peeps planning to download and watch it. Friendly suggestion :)

Max N. is on the new for '09 Gixxer which is quite different from the '08. It might give him some issues early on at some tracks until they get it developed further.

And you can have george to run it again.
Race 1:
WOW!
Earlier today, I finally saw the race 1 on Phillip Island..That was great. Then, this afternoon, watching both of these races was great. I have not been too into WSBK too much in the past, but since MotoGp did not start yet, i have been watching.

I am also a Spies fan......did not just jump on the band wagon.** I always liked him more than Mladin in the AMA..and felt Mladin always had a cocky air about him.

** Proof from my monitor thread I am not a band wagoner:

I am looking forward to watching WSBK and MGP all this year.

+1 Although a great rider, he always seemed to have about as much personality as a utility pole to me. He does seem to be opening up a bit in the post race interviews in WSBK though.
I am happy that he is riding great so far at the world level.Cool to see he is still wearing a HJC helmet as well. But put a American Flag on that R1.
my friend and i think spies needs to do a ricky bobby kinda interview. may be call biaggi, "the frenchman." it would at least make the interviews more interesting.
