With the local riding temps getting down into the 40s and lower, my forks had been giving me a really harsh ride, though no changes had been done since last summer.  I took out the 15W oil and filled 'er up with 10, leaving 125 mm air gap as standard.  I carefully set the sag for 35 mm.  Bingo!  The bike rides like a dream now over rough pavement and the forks still show good control in corners.  I have Progressive fork springs in and weigh about 162 in gear.  Bike is an 02 standard with 38000 miles.

What condition was the oil you poured out?

How long was it in there?

Asking because I am trying to find a pre-emptive interval to change the oil in my forks.
I found that the 20 weight in my forks was stiff at first but warmed up after a few miles.
Most of my rides are 20 - 30 miles though. I rarely do short runs.

The old oil had been in there maybe 5000 miles and was the usual grey soup. I did notice that the forks would limber up after a while, but never approached the performance I am enjoying with the 10 weight now. Most of my rides are a minimum of 20 miles, too.
