sometimes when i really get on the bike i miss 2nd. i have done this several times and it really bothers me. one because i guess its just inproper technique and two because it shoots the bike to redline and im afraid its damaging the motor. Not to mention looking stupid. is it an adustment issue or something more serious.

Missed a shift this weekend myself.

Are you sure that the limiter will kick on in that situation? I've had it cut the fun off when I'm winding first gear out, but it didn't seem like it came on when I missed 2nd and rev'd it to the moon.

jus to be clear, you're WFO from 1st to 2nd, shift, miss 2nd and wind up in Neutral with the revs through the roof?

More than likely its shifting technique - you need to preload the shifter before the shift; personally I only slip the clutch, not pulling the lever all the way in (dont worry about grinding gears, it'll take alot of forceful pressure to go into the next gear with the transmission under that much load)
Least than likely - change the oil

good point made there. the oil could be getting a little mucked up.

the miss is under full accel, and i hit neutral, its fine if im three quarters throttle could it be a lever adustment issue. i have it adjusted the way i feel comfortable but there is about half an inch, mabye less, of play before any action.

the SV is strong enuf to handle an over rev now & then, I've downshifted into 1st @ 70mph a couple times with no bad things happening

If this is the case I'd say you're just not shifting firmly enough. The rev limiter will kick in if you go too high in this situation.

Make sure to pull the shift lever all the way up, it has to move further from 1st to 2nd than between other gears.

the rear doesn't "lock up" you need to hit the brake to "lock" it up,

but ya, you loose traction, you do slide on pavement faster than the wheel is turning, the tach needle points to what I estimate to be 14,000 rpm

firt time I did it, I was right on top of the situation and got the clutch pulled back in within a split second, second time was different, I was a space cadet, I was fishtailing for at least a hundred feet or more, as the time, I had over 90,000 miles on my SV, I put another 45,000 after that incident

both times, I just forgot I had GP shift and clicked the wrong way when I was @ redline in 2nd :nosepick:
