I have noticed that if someone has an ad on a web forum and they place their contact info they spell it out?
Is there a reason for this, or are people just trying to be cute?

Please forgive the newb question, but it's something I have been meaning to ask for quite some time now and felt it was time I step and just ask.

If you have any complaints you can contact me via e-mail at

yeah, what trambo said. same with phone #'s.
someone could google your phone # and see where you've posted it, so spelling it out keeps it from getting picked up in search engines too.

+1 to this.

There's lots of spiders and crawlers that will comb sites for all of your personal info so they can spam you to death.

This is also why many people choose to put it in an image file rather than plain text.
