Which bike would you get if you can't have the SV650? And why?

I get it. You love your SV650. That's why you are here.

But if you were to get a different bike, which one would you pick, which is more fun than the SV650?

Beware of Demo Mode, which is that all the goodies are unlocked for 60 days and then they automatically turn off unless you pay to have them unlocked again.
I don't want to buy anything with that kind of setup. I want to buy a thing with a function, not a subscription.

I've seen a lot of complaints on the forum for oil leaks that are really the tiniest of seeps.
hmmm - trying to decide how to read this. Seems to me that even the tiniest of seeps would be a bad enough thing.

Are you implying that it is OK for a motorcycle to have an oil leak if it is small enough?

In the automotive world, an actual droplet needs to be forming for it to be covered under warranty. A seep is not enough.

Like, this is a leak:

I just got a 5th gen VFR800 a month ago - been dailying that the last couple weeks and recently went back to the SV. I went from on the edge of selling, to very very likely selling - for my use case the VFR is so much better. My commute is basically all highway, and the VFR isn't too shabby in the twisties

My other bike is more fun than my SV. The SV is a better machine though. It's good to have two.

I put over 80,000 miles on one of those. Only problem was the rectumfryer went bad. Good bikes. (y)

Why did you sell (or do you still have it)? If you sold, was it just to experience other bikes (like the Duc you had)?

A bit off topic from the thread but I did the thermostat, all the coolant and vacuum hoses, de-paired, de-Cali-emission'd it last Saturday. It was a brutal 12 hour day but well worth it, runs better than ever now.

GSX-8S, 'cept it's ugly and pretty useless for traveling.
GSX-8S ... pretty useless for traveling
Compared to the SV650? May I ask why you say that?

It was going on 20 yo and I had it almost the whole time. Decided it was time for something newer, time for a change.

Gotta say the Kawasaki Ninja, initially I wanted a 250 but now that I’ve felt something higher, probably something close to 600.

Oh, @t.er

I also lost the rear sprocket off the VFR, that big nut apparently unscrewed while riding and came off. Make sure that thing is torqued and "staked". I think this is uncommon and the mechanic that worked on it not long before that Effed up, but could not prove it.

Oh lord. Thanks for letting me know. I'll have a look!

Edit: Oh god! This was you! Jesus... will have a look this weekend

Last weekend I test rode a 2023 BMW R Nine T.

Were it not for the retail price, that bike would be high on my list.

The 3.7 gallon fuel capacity for one, the lack of wind protection for another. The cafe-racerish abbreviated tail section looks to be only minimally accommodative of soft bags, a tired styling clue IMO. I wish they had put that motor into something more useful, maybe someday they will.

You found it, yes that was me. Give it a check, but don't worry too much about it. Think I spent about $600 on parts, mostly from a part out. Got it fixed though.

Wtf? Sprocket fell off?
Did the mechanic forget to bolt it down or what?

The 1980 XT500 is my around town/as far as the gas tank will take me bike and I absolutely love to throw it around in the twisties. When I first got the SV I had a horrible time until I figured out the blip and adjusted to the weight. My prior bike was and RD350 and you could pretty much throw that around as much as the XT. But once I figured out how to ride it I grew to love it almost as much as my XT.

So I've got the two bikes I NEED now imo but if someone was going to toss a new bike of my choice at me I'd probably go for the 660 as well. I never wanted to own another sportbike but everything I've read about Aprilla sounds like it could change my mind..

Garage (a rare shot of the bike with both wheels down)

Skaggs Springs Rd (new exhaust was a game changer on the SV)
