I have an 03 SV650 that I'm fixing for a friend....and it's going to be at my disposal to ride too...I've discovered that the fuel pump is dead...and found out the local dealer has it for 592 bucks???? HUH??

anyone know where I can get one cheaper? Even used?? wanna get this thing going again!
it has 148 miles on it and sat since 04. She never rode it. BARN fresh.

yes checked fuses......test lighted the entire electrical system and it traces strait to the fuel pump. Everytime I connect the fuel pump plug....the fuse pops....

bypassed the fuel pump and everything's fine.

452 is the lowest I've found....does anyone know any other websites to try and find one cheaper? Budget is LOW

That's it, just 148 total miles on the bike? And it sat for 4 years?

Sounds like the fuel pump might be in very good shape, just gooped up from sitting for so long.

If it's possible, I would first try to disassemble the pump and clean it. If it's a sealed unit and doesn't come apart, maybe try soaking it carb or injector cleaner, then try again.

If that doesn't work, with the pump already removed from the bike, try briefly connecting it directly to 12v. If the pump is stalled and you leave it connected for too long, you will fry it. This direct connection to 12v may be enough to break it loose. To be more cautious, put an in-line fuse between the pump and the battery before trying this direct connection.

TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!: The lazy mans way, would be to just temporarily swap out the 10amp fuse for a higher value, maybe 20amps, without removing the pump from the bike. Of course, overloaded electrical circuits and gasoline don't make a good combination to say the least!

It's worth a shot try to "de-goop" it before shelling out $500. You have nothing to loose.
