my question is when do you know you need a new chain and sprocket. i have adjusted my wheel back to tighten the chain slack. this has to be the 3rd or 4th time i had to make adjustments. i'm at the second to last wheel marker now. so i'm thinking i need a new chain because it has stretched a lot.

as for the rear sprocket it still looks sharp and pointy. is it a good idea when you replace the chain you should also replace the sprockets?

Order a replacement chain (and sprockets if needed) now so they're in the garage when you need them. If you find yourself suddenly making frequent tightening adjustments to an older chain, chances are your chain is on its last legs.

Most recommend you replace sprockets when replacing a chain; I personally replace my sprockets every other chain and have had no ill effects such as premature wear on the chain.
