Thanks for the votes. Looking at the poll, the spikes at "months without license" and "hundreds in fines" have me shaking my head. Since this is a motorcycle forum, the results should be skewed to the bottom, so I'm going to say that the general public would certainly agree with these two actions and possibly actions higher up in the poll.

Why don't we just ban motorcycles all together, how would you guys like that? Think it's impossible?

Here in AZ, is a mandatory Reckless Driving ticket...

It does not matter if the front wheel comes up an inch or 5 ft...

First offence: Not arrested, $500.00 fine, and as many points as a DUI...

Second offence: Arrested over the weekend, $500.00 fine, as many points as a DUI, and minimun 20 days in Jail...

I have done my 20 days... First time in jail ever... It was an experience!!! The $0.17 meals are worse that I would feed a starving Mexican back alley dog... Needless to say, I lost some weigh...

Stop whining. You may believe you did a "responsible" wheelie, but obviously someone - possibly the grey haired old lady behind you talking on her cell phone - disagreed.

I personally don't like seeing people doing stupid things, aka, "stunts" on public roads. I especially don't like it when some JO is pulling a wheelie at 80 mph in front of my car. WTF is that about? Some people just have to be the class clown. But, if he loses it and I run his retarded ass over, my life is ruined - because he had to show off his mad stunner skilz to a captive audience.

Also, don't be surprised if someone takes the law enforcement role in their own hands and runs your ass off the road because your stunting ****** them off. I'm not advocating or supporting such behavior, but I've certainly had vehicles (usually snot nosed kids driving jacked up pick ups) mess with me just because I was on a bike. So, why invite that?

I guess I have a different attitude because life was a little different when I was growing up. There was no such thing as political correctness and a lot less tolerance. Ever see Easy Rider?

There is a huge difference between asking drivers to behave in a certain manner and telling them they cannot drive at all. Rights aren't always black and white like "either behave or everyone suffers". The law says you CAN operate a vehicle so long as you behave. As a comparison, nobody is going to ban cars because one in 139 drivers is charged with DUI every year. (source: http://www.madd.org/Drunk-Driving/Drunk-Driving/Statistics.aspx )

I enjoy riding and some 'spirited' behavior from time to time. I know when I'm crossing the line of the law and I accept the penalties if I'm dumb enough to do it in the presence of others. If I'm generously given a warning I thank my luck and keep my nose clean for a while. I don't complain that the laws shouldn't apply to me because I have more skill than the squid next door.

When fellow riders are telling you that public stunting is a bad idea, maybe it's because we're concerned about our image to the general public. Maybe it's because we don't want our family member to be the driver behind you that has to swerve to avoid your carcass in the street. Maybe it's because the cop will pull over a bike that matches your description and it'll be us instead of you. Maybe we don't want sport bikes banned or restricted in power because non-riders see us as a threat. There are lots of reasons NOT to wheelie in the street, and very few reasons to do so. Weighing the two is something society expects us as adults to be able to do responsibly.

What do you expect?

Considering that today Law Enforcement do not work on solving crime, but focus their attention on taxing citizens for state revenue, and making criminals of average people...

Even if you get a speeding ticket, yes civil traffic... If you can not pay a $350.00 ticket in due time, you get your driver license suspended... Driving on a suspended license is a crime... It will be on file for ever...

Society in the USA has changed a lot from the country that once stood for the good of the people... Now we live in a country that stands for the good of corporations and the welfare of the rich...

Look, you do a wheelie and you kill a little girl you should be punished... If you do not crash and hurt somebody... What is the big deal?

All these guys talking big about it is wrong... and you should be harshly punished... I do not think they have ever been under the eye of law enforcement to realize how stupid some of these laws really are...

A drunk driver runs a red light and hits a car... He does 10 days in jail and $10,000.00 worth of fines that go to the State... Not even to the guy who got hit!!!

You do 2 wheelies and you do 20 days in jail... HOW DOES THAT EVEN EFFING COMPARES?!!!

Luis- 20 days in the slammer just isn't right. Why do we have ANYBODY in prison for non-violent crimes?

So you guys that are so intent on proving how dangerous a wheelie is to people around the wheelier (you can tell me all day long how much danger i'm putting myself in, that's fine, you're putting yourself in nearly as much danger by riding without wheeling), please tell me how someone who should be driving their 4,000 lb cage while finding their cell phone, dialing 911 and focusing on something other than what's in front of them, is safer for the public.

OKLA. statutes; title 47, chapter 11, article 9, section 11-901 "reckless driving" reads: A. It shall be deemed reckless driving for any person to drive a motor vehicle in a careless or wanton manner without regard for the safety of persons or property or in violation of the conditions outlined in Section 11-801 of this title.

QUOTE]

Well I have been busted for this and its pretty bull ****. Wreckless driving is so shady that it can be tagged onto pretty much anything. Its something they add to the ticket so that have more things to play "give and take" with in court. Its one of those laws/tickets, that they can "play" with depending on what an ass you are.

As far as wheelies go, Never admit you did one!!!! I had a similar incident when i was a young spry monkey. I pulled a wheelie on a back road and the cop pulled me over ( he was on a bike hiding on some side road). He said he heard my exhaust and "knows" I must have been doign a wheelie. As soon as I heard that I realized he never SAW me. So I kept saying that I slipped on my gear change and I was terrably sorry. He got agrivated and wrote me at ticket for loud exhaust.

FYI, when you get caught pulling a wheelie its wreckless driving, wreckless conduct, driving to endanger....All those put together. Like I said above, they are all shady descriptions so they can all be tagged on together to make the ticket longer. Thats why Im always scared shitless of cops. they can pull you over and give you a ticket when ever they feel like it. Theres ALWAYS something they can pull on you if they want. Doesnt matter what your doing.

I'm not saying all the laws are proportional or that I'm agreement with them. I WILL point out that I believe the intent of the law is to PREVENT the death of the little girl in the first place...not just punish you afterward.

Maybe you could get a 'w' endorsement on your license that indicates you've demonstrated you can control a bike on one wheel?

Oil starvation. That's your penalty. Everything else is up to the LEOs. That's what I think. IMO, the same selection should be applied to what the penalty should be for being a squid.

Ok.

Have any opinion on what the punishment should be?
Hmmmm, how about........

If you do a wheelie (on public roads), and get caught doing a wheelie, it's a ticket, with a fine.

If you are doing a mile long stand up wheelie (on public roads) the general public can run you over. And then they get to punch you in the neck (one time), if they so please. Anyone who runs over the squid-doing-the-mile-long-wheelie, has to fix the damage to thier own car. If the wheelie squid survives the running over, and the neck beating, he gets a ticket, with a fine.

This I agree with. The laws have good intent, but when law enforcment over uses, or misuses the original intent of the law the public tents to bark back. If we only had more officers that "knew what it was like" to have a little fun but not to be carried away, I think we would be much better off.
