What is this in my stock exhaust?

So I installed a Two Brothers slip-on today that I picked up from the WERA forums. After I made the cut on my stock exhaust I see this. What is this? Is this the exhaust baffle or whatever? I left it in there and installed the slip-on without any problems. Sounds awesome! But just curious on what this is.

Emissions sensor since you have a Cali spec bike. Must be reading exhaust gas temp and unburnt fuel level or an O2 sensor??
The collector. The o2 sensor is the thing with wire coming out of the header.
That is the catalytic converter. To meet emissions standard they must fit that in the system.
yup it is one of the 2 cats in the 07+ CA models. the wire leads to an o2 sensor. and no, it doesnt do anything but analyze. doesnt actually use the data to adjust A/F ratio on the fly or anything cool.

you already cut through part of the cat. you can use a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to smash the rest of it out. just be careful not to hit the o2 sensor. and start it up before you mount the new slipon if you do smash it out of there, so you blow all the debris out. and for gawds sake dont breath any of it in!!

thanks for the tips. interesting that there's a cat. i'll probably just leave it for the time being. but yeah i was afraid of damaging the o2 sensor behind that so i just left it alone. i think i would remove the o2 sensor before trying to remove the cat. o2 sensors are $$$
intresting for sure, i dont think my bike had that stuff when i took mine apart.

Oh. Seems a bit pointless then really...
It took 4 posts for someone to correctly identify a catalytic converter?

It always amazes me how many people are willing to give advise when they clearly don't have a clue.

only california models got the cat and o2 sensor. maybe in the future other states will be blessed with these items.
yep I had one in there too when I put on my two bros last spring. my 07 is not a california spec either. left it alone as I too did not want to mess with the o2 sensor. Seems to make no difference now.
muffler bearing holder?
Classic phrase yes, but I'm afraid it no longer suites. See aparently the dodge viper now somehow utilizes muffler bearings....I dunno what for but it does. :p
