My hubby was helping me and his hand slipped. I thought that stupid filter was going to mean a trip to the emergency room for stitches. If it was my thumb we'd probably have gone anyway.

This should have been a simple 5 minute job. :angry5:

WOW! Dude must have over tighted it when putting it on!

Try an auto parts store I am not sure if Lowe's or Home Depot would have the strap style filter wrench's.

Good luck if you have a mind set like I do I get super pi$$ed when simple sh1t turns difficult!
I just use a constricter belt type... I stole the one my mom used to use in the kitchen for jars and it worked well.... somehow it never made it back to the kitchen... ;D but she always had a couple anyway ... I still keep one handy today years later

the metal ones are ok too but I've found it hard to find ones that fit smaller filters... on my car I got by wrapping a slightly damp rag around it to take up the slack so when it tightened down it had something to grip on... I've not done it on the SV yet though...

Sears should have a $8 strap wrench like this. I have the same one and it has worked for years. I use a K&N filter on the bike though.

I find nylon slips too much.. this is like the one I use... they are the same as the kitchen ones... only the kitchen ones are somewhat cheaper for some reason... the matierials are the same... in fact the part is the same the only difference is one says motomaster on it and the other says something else..

they probably won't work if the thing is welded on like it seems the the case above... I've never heard of the screwdriver method failing... yikes must have been a juice monkey with a metal wrench putting it on

Guess I'll be going to the local Walmart to find something.......here in a few seconds.

2 each their own. But with the square stock of steel and a little common sense the nylon strap wrench isn't going anywhere. At least it hasn't for me on Heavy equipment, Cars, Vans, Trucks, and my first filter on my bike when I bought it. They must have put that **** thing on with a 1/2 drive ratchet.:angry1:

I attempted to change the oil in the newish SV that I bought before Xmas. One mangled filter and a sliced up thumb on Mr. tlc later and the filter is STILL on the bike. :angry7:
did the hammer slip?? :D

$800... holeshot fender eliminator, smoked integrated tail lights, talon 3300ip alarm system, license bracket, lighted nuts, oem color matched tire hugger... i think thats about it... installing all in the next month i think on my 08 naked candy blue! cant wait!

Okay it was actually yesterday, but ....

I GOT MY BIKE RUNNING;D

Looks like in the engine tear down and rebuild I managed to stop the production of chocolate milk shakes & get rid of the unusual engine hesitation!!! So, I took her out for a 80 mile spin!!

 <--For all those that helped!!!

Congrats Sexy. You rock!

nice!

well mine was 2 days ago but.....

i got my bike 85% put back together and started it right up after 10 months of sitting after my wreck! whoo hoo. can't wait to get it back on the road!

don't bother "bedateing" any longer go ahead and be-dadge it all and make your own design for the tank... ;)

I'm married with 2 little kids, "bedating" is sometimes all I have!! ;D I think I'm going to leave the "S" on for awhile, but getting rid of the other stickers all together!

Seems like every time I change oil on a new vehicle, the oil filters are always a PITA to get off. I guess noone reads the directions, Hand tighten, then a 1/4 turn more>

Maybe they were some monster hands that tightened it in the first place....that extra 1/4 turn had to be performed by impact wrench:p
I actually had an S15 pickup truck that had a stuck oil filter. I finally gave up and brought it into Jiffy Lube. It took them 2-3 hours plus parts. They broke something in the struggle to get that bad boy off.

Good Luck TLC!

Reference John Madden thread in the open forums! LOL;D

Rode to the beach (HB) this morning. Supposed to be 83 today. There may be rain later this week, CA could use it.
