Cheezed the cam holders while putting on the rear valve cover. At the shop now waiting on the correct inserts to arrive and be used by their experienced hands.

ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! ouch! etc.

That's what I said. With many curses and venom. But researching it the next morning revealed it to actually be quite common. Be careful with your next valve inspection!

Where exactly is this bushing and threaded hole? I'm going to be doing vi soon and haven't seen anything about this?...

Not a bushing or insert, just machined that way. Two of the bolts that hold on the valve cover thread into the top of the camshaft holders. Pictured. When I put it back together I'll just snug it down like an oil filter and keep an eye out for leaks. The torque spec is really low but meant for dry threads so snug should work.

Found out the hard way that Showa seals don't fit in my forks and ordered another set of fork oil seals from racetech because their website is a nightmare and I'm a noob.

Speaking of Showa.

I tried to buy some Showa o-rings for the fork caps on my Derbi, but Showa doesn't sell them. They want you to get it from the cycle's manufacturer, which is kinds hard when they are no longer in-business. Showa didn't respond after I told them that. Worthless.

I contacted Racetech, and they don't sell them either. Local race shop matched one up that appears to be sealing (fork is currently sitting upside-down to see if it will still leak).

Hard to believe the actual manufacturer won't help you out...

Yep common thing.
Reason I keep those 7mm inserts around :)

It is just o-ring, you can buy it everywhere.

And I would have been sending them to you if the local shops couldn't help me. I'm not of a mind to attempt this the first time on a critical component.

Finally found one of those blasted mesh trash cans and made a radiator guard. I need to come up with a way of damping it's tendancy to rattle against the ends of the radiator though. I'm thinking of looping small zip ties through to act as springs, but I'm a little worried about undue wear to the radiator itself.

How about some of that double-sided foam tape? It should provide some damping against vibration. Maybe stick some to the radiator caps and sandwich them and the mesh under the guards.

Went for a ride around the island.
Started right up. Didn't leak all over. Worked as advertised.

Didn't crash.
Result! Still an SV haver.

Been a couple months since I started it last.

Dropped bike in drive way last week. Now recovering from a lower back muscle strain from picking it back up off the ground. ....snapped off gear lever. Will replace with new as soon as usps gets here tomorrow. Lesson learned....make sure kick stand is fully extended before resting bike on it. ;-(
