Yesterday, but I forgot to post it...

On the way home, taking the offramp for my freeway exit, I got to dance the "Tar Snake Boogie"... First time that's happened on that ramp, but with the high temps we've been having it's not too surprising.

Well... I replaced the leaking seals in my waterpump - the coolant side that meshes with the mechanical, the mechanical, and the oil side rubber. I also replaced my engine case gasket on the right side, after spraypainting it gloss black.

I then thought, why not do valves while it is all taken apart? So I shimmed it, and started putting it back together. As I was tightening the camshaft journal bolts on the front cylinder exhaust (WITH A TORQUE WRENCH SET TO 84 INCH/LB) one of them kept turning, and didn't get any tighter... Silently thought to myself, oh **** - yes, it sheared off right where the threads start. Bolt failed. And the manual says they're supposed to be some super strong material... Got it out, waiting on the replacement bolt & dowel in the mail.

For anyone else who has done valves, do you remember if your camshaft journal bolts had a 9 on top? The service manual says they are supposed to, but mine only have the 4 notches for a "4" hardness rating.

added heat resistant panel to bottom of airbox :)

having to install a new engine ended up being the best thing that could happen to me. I found a loose bolt/nut in my suspension (added red vs blue loc tite this time) and I'm doing all these little projects that one at a time would be annoying - but the bike is all apart anyway so why not?!

Do you think that the heat shielding around the intake will affect the temperature of the air going in enough to affect power?

Hit an interesting mileage milestone this morning...

Picked this Scorpion slip-on on eBay the other day for $144, installed it last night. Really happy with it, a different tone than the 2Bros that I had on my first gen but it sounds great.

After removing the factory rear set I used my digital calipers to measure the hole spacing. I knew I wanted to go at least 1 up and 1 back. Then after drilling the first 2 holes I began marking the extra holes at a spacing slightly under 1/2 inch center to center around it. The holes were drilled then tapped with a M8x1.25 tap to match the hardware for the bike.

Then we cut them out on the band saw

After some grinding and modifying I painted it to match the bike frame. I forgot to take another picture after this, but I added more holes for more adjustment before installing.

Then I took a piece of aluminum tubing and cut it to 4 different lengths. Drilled the middle of the tubing with a #8 (5.055mm) drill bit and threaded the tube with a M6x1.0 tap. Then cut the threaded end of a grade 10 bolt off and threaded it to the appropriate length tube for the adjustment holes selected. And use jam nuts to lock it all together.
