Been looking at that damage picture a bit, and am puzzled by the two worn down teeth to the left of the clean broken one. If I had to guess, it would be that the clean and shiny nubs had been broken for quite a while and had been shined up by contact...then when the chain snapped it shocked the last one which broke off clean. Would be interesting to see the mating gear on the other shaft.:) Forgive me....I just LOVE looking at stuff that has Given the Ultimate Sacrifice.

Went on my first long-ish trip -- first time on the highway, really. 280 miles round-trip with a friend and his Triumph Scrambler. It was beautiful when we left Bozeman, but started pouring rain about 100 miles in, then started snowing. Hard. I don't trust our forecasts anymore. Turns out perforated leather isn't so great in a blizzard . It was a blast, though. I got the whole adventure touring experience: sunshine, rain, snow, hail, and construction.

My Motosliders from Blair at svracingparts were waiting for me when I got home. All in all, it was a pretty good day.

Finished cleaning the swingarm and rear sprocket and housing. Replacing front sprocket and cleaning that area.

Will also put the front tire back on but will leave the rear tire off. Because the lovely shop near my house that specializes in motorcycles put my rear tire on wrong after I had to wait two days for them to change it.

FYI, if you take the wheels off, deliver the wheels and tires, wait two days, AND get stuck with the old tires too! Just do it yourself, because that's what I'm doing this week. Getting the tools and changing the damn thing myself.

Ghetto-rigged a LED license plate light i picked up from amazon. It actually works pretty well, just bright enough to light the plate without being distracting.

I figured I should probably make it legal to ride in the dark, especially since I ride past my neighbor cop almost daily at 5:30am

While i was tinkering, I also changed the oil and refreshed the K&N. time to go for a test ride :vroom:

Yesterday I Cleaned and lubed the chain, and put on hand guards. :) thanks ofir! They really helped with the fog this morning.

Not today but sunday i went for a ride and ended up hitting a deer. Was able to somehow keep the bike upright. Rode the bike home 60 miles, and functionally the bike feels fine. Cosmetically however, well the pictures are below. The deer was probably the size of a great dane. Was probably doing 35/40mph at impact

Theres also a 4" long vertical crack on the tail section.

Well, it's always good to start off the day speechless I guess. I'm really glad you're okay, apart from your trousers, you should probably just pitch them and get new ones. Nobody would blame you.

Good reminder it's road rat season though, and that's just about the easiest you get off of that reminder past a near miss.

Can you claim that type of impact for insurance if you have full coverage and a low deductible?

Yeah..i actually just taljed to ins today. I have comprehensive with 250 deductible so i should be okay. Gonna ask if the check can be cut to me since im a certified mechanic and do the work myself.
