fabricated a bracket for my new vapor trail tech gauge, got the rpm running smooth and finished up some wiring and tiding up the whole thing.
plus a good scrub and clean up, cleaned drive chain from grease back to gold and lube.
all in all, a very good day i'd say :)

thnx bro!

remember me for SVOTM lol ;)

LCSO can be a bit tight on road legalities, so in my efforts to avoid a stop by them, I added better tag lights. The light with the kit didn't allow for really any lighting due to it's placement (it's dead center, and IS on in the pic...hardly noticeable).

I rode back tonight in total darkness, a storm brewing, and passed by 4 cops that I'm aware of...none gave me a second thought!

Oh...picked up another jacket, too!

Kouba Lowering Links installed. The bottom dogbone nut was a ***** to get off. I stripped the nut and had to buy a replacement ($4!) from the dealer. It was worth it — I can put two feet on the ground now.

Installed a new license plate light $9.99 from cycle gear really bright. Gave the SV a good bath she deserved it.. Simple green and a brush to the wheels and tires i just lubed the chain last night of course it splattered on the back wheel on todays ride.

Two days late but I finally got her out at the track again. We went with a local mechanic to Dakota county technical college where they have a course that the police use for their driving as well as many car groups for their auto cross events and what not.

Friday I rode her up to Columbia (and managed to hit four storms) and finally took the MSF course. Luckily the weather Saturday made up for being drenched Friday and I was able to enjoy the ride home after the class...

Installed the new Vortex rearsets on the 05

Nice... although I preferred the virago generation just after that one...I like the late 80's early 90's Viragos... my mom had a virago 500 for a while... they are still a decent bike... many of the components on that bike were the same as the stuff I had on my 83 Maxim 650...funny how Yamaha used so many exact same components on the Maxim/Seca, Virago, and XS series bikes...

I'd love to find a good XS850 to turn in to a mild cafe' ish styled bike... maybe a little like some of the bikes in this clip.. http://vimeo.com/19061363 or perhaps... this one http://vimeo.com/31288625

I got a 97 800cc Marauder... but would have preferred a 1400 Intruder from the late 80's to mid 90's... I loved the Japanese cruisers... distinctive styling without trying to look like a harley....

If I find one I'll be trading in my Marauder for one of these...

Thanks zokambaa. Yeah this is actually my 3rd virago. Lol
I had a 95 xv535 that I got pretty much new, then an 89 xv750 that I traded in for my first sportbike and now this one.
It's gonna be a fun project.

I'm from fridley though (just north of Minneapolis).

3 viragos eh... I can see getting rid of the 535... but the 750 would have been a nice bike.. I never owned one.. but they seemed real comfortable when I sat on them or test drove them... ended up with the maxim because it was a bit sportier... then the SVs came later.

Around here would be a gold mine for anyone looking for older bikes... since a heavily used bike is something like 35,000 KM even though it is almost 30 years old...

a few goldwings, ventures, or BMW touring bikes hit the 70,000km mark.. but they are few... My Old maxim that my dad now has is hitting close to 70,000 but still runs... he neglects it so it is a little more worse for wear than when I had it... but it is still going

80's bikes are a lot of fun... I don't miss the carbs... but otherwise they are cool.... I think I need to move out of the condo and get a house...I have 2 bikes and a car.. but could only put one more bike in my parking spot...

I've never been much of a Honda fan.. but I've been tempted a few times that I've seen some Honda CB900F Super Sports come up for sale.... or a classc VFR back in my highschool days those things gave me quite the stiffie....

Sometimes the older bikes seem to have a bit more personality than bikes these days... Maybe I should get my 57 triumph tiger 110 working again... my dad essentially gave it to me but I haven't had the time or cash to restore it yet

No doubt that they had more personality back in the day. Take modern and line em up to each other and remove the stickers an you'll have no clue which is which lol

The one thing that sucks about the old bikes is the constant maitnence. Once you fix one thing, something else breaks on you. Least it's not a Harley..

Well.. yes and no.. once they are in tune and well maintained.. I think they are just as reliable...

however if something does break, it is a lot easier to fix than the electronic bikes... the old maxim I had was much easier to work on then my SV... and the SV is pretty easy compared to many... good thing the old bikes I've had were pretty common so the wreckers had plenty of parts... not to mention the ebay hoards of parts if you have a common old bike like the maxim, the XS or say a CB or similar... those parts are easy to find... and are probably still being made in India or some other developing nation

Granted the performance is not even close to modern bikes in the way of suspension and braking... but... you aren't supposed to ride a 30 year old bike like you are in the moto-GP
