Just thought this would be a cool new topic. If there is already one in existence please let me know so I can delete this one, or a mod can do it. As for me I finished my under tail project and rode the crap out of it.

Ok here's the pics as promised...please excuse the crappy quality as my camera is toast. I guess I know what I'm getting myself for X-mas!

No problem. I went through the same thing. I had the rubber L brackets for my stands as well...my Katana( first "sport" bike) had no bobbin supports either. Then I for the SV and GSXR which did..so I ordered those.

I installed my traxxion emmulator drop in kit with the damper rods. I ended up finding the right pvc tubing for pressing in the slide bearings,i saw someone here slit the tubing to make it flex around the 41mm fork leg (1.615) it may have been 1.5,i have a lathe so i just cut the tubing into pieces and bored them out a bit,as well as shaping one end to only push on the bearing and another with clearence for the lip of the oil inner oil seal. The valve and rod are thicker than stock under the spring so i cut the spacer down a bit ,i have one of those horizontal bandsaws with a stop for the work piece so i could make a nice straight cut and deburr in the lathe,i've read other posts where mc shops screwed the pouch on this aspect. I cut it off in increments first about a quarter then about an eighth equal on both sides of course, now i can get te thread started by hand with a moderate effort, when i took it apart there wasn't a ton of tension on the spring and the first owner had set the preload to about 4.5 turns. Gotta set up my new front brake and hope for some dryness in the next week or so.

Since it was 70* here, I rode to the gas station and back (the long way). Then got home and did a few wheelies on the pit bike. ;)

I added a new feature to my SV today!!!!

Chocolate Shake Mixer! It even comes with a sight glass to check consistency.

Wasn't really a goal. Had a track day.....didn't notice anything strange. The bike sat for a month...then I fired her up for this lovely VA weather and my coolant light came on. When I checked the coolant.....it was gone:eek:

I'll take the valve covers off next weekend...then the heads....ect....as I search for the issue. The engine sounds perfectly normal. So I'm hoping that it's a gasket or a freeze plug.

Sexy, check your side gasket cover since the coolant is already gone and the oil is changed. There is a rubber seal under the water pump you should check just in case. It those are in tact, then dive into the heads.

As for mine, it now has no butt. Undertail is off, rear plastics are off, Givi rack is off, battery tray is off, rear shock is off. Next step is to pull the gas tank and try to do valve clearances. I'll save that for wed/thurs since I'm off both days. It's weird seein' the bike without all the stuff on it.

I was 20 degrees one of the days that I was gone and the bike had been sitting for a month. I guess I to would question whether a blown gasket would actually leak all of my coolant that quickly into the oil??? I was going to start the actual engine tear down yesterday, but decided to add a second set of florecent lights to the garage first.

So much for racing to install my heated grips:rolleyes:

Mmm, that's, what, -6 in proper temperature? Do you run antifreeze or winter coolant? If not, then I'd say you might have a winner, but you need to go way cooler if you do use some sort of antifreeze. But don't rule out gaskets, it wouldn't have to leak fast to get that result, if the bike's been laid up.

Huh. I can't actually remember where the plugs are in the SV, are they not in the cylinder head? Sunk down beside the spark plugs? Nice and easy to check if they are. But that's kind of the vaguest of memories, I can only ever remember hearing of one SV owner who had that happen to them. Then again, I've never heard of a head gasket failure on bikes that aren't madly tuned.

Hope you get it sorted easily!

Had antifreeze in it. I don't really know how quickly it pour into the engine oil because she'd been sitting all month. I let her warm up, and made a short 20 mile ride with no issues. It was on the way back 2 hours or so later....I didn't really let her warm up (it was about 60+ degrees out) and I was in a rush to get home. She fired right up and off I went. On my way home I noticed the coolant light was on...

So, the water pump O-ring looks fine, the freeze plugs appear to be in tact and in place in the front and rear head. So, I guess the engine is coming out between today and tomorrow so that I can see whether it's actually a blown head gasket.

Someone mentioned that I could have cracked the engine. How likely is that. The bike was run earlier in the day. The temps were warm. For those that know me....I'm not really a high RPM rider. If the head gasket isn't blown....??? what is my next option?
