Go to harbor freight and spend the $20 on their bead breaker. You gotta find something to put on the sides so that you don't contact the brake rotors on the frame, but it is much easier and much faster than a C clamp. I used a C clamp for about a year before I bought the breaker. Don't know why I waited so long.

had it picked up for an estimate and repairs after a dump truck knocked it over in the street in front of my house while I was at work
looking at $2700 worth: right lower fairing, rear wheel and tire, passenger peg, brake pedal, turn signal, kick stand, pick up and delivery charges

Had a great wrenching day...
1. Installed an Ohlins S46HRCL shock to replace the pretender 636 that I'd previously done...
2. Installed 1.0 kgf/mm springs instead of the 0.85's that were my previous effort (even following various online calculators these were far too soft for me. I'm 188 so no monster but the new ones sure do the job.) Added a half more turn on my emulators (now 3 turns in). And filled to 125mm with 20w oil.
3. Installed an LED voltmeter. Simple enough, but I did the direct wiring back to the battery (via a relay triggered by the lights) so I faffed around getting things neat.
4. Replaced a crack upper fairing with a new OEM item (found it on sale!!) Looking perfect again. I'll fix up the old one as it's just a crack around the indicator lamp assembly that needs attention. Otherwise it's a-ok.

Pulled out and cleaned the rear shock, the linkage, dogbones, bolts and surrounding area. 18000 miles of road grime and chain lube overspray really looked like crap but alas, NO MORE!!

rebuilt the calipers (well, pulled em apart including removal of pistons/seals, cleaned them, put them back together with new pads), put bars on and am now bleeding the brakes. took a pic before it got dark:

Put her up on stands and cleaned the wheels...still got some grime I cant get off!
Then, searched online for some sport touring tires. Need a new rear (180/55ZR17).
Anyone used the Michelin Pilot Road 2's? Kind of pricey but they're good for better than average milage.

Halloween bike! That sure is purdy. What headlight is that?

MT-03 knockoff. LSL sells it as the "Urban" for way more money.

don't know what they go for now, sounds reasonable though. doesn't look like that one comes with side brackets like mine. you see the horizontal aluminum strips at the top? those go to the bases for my riser clipons. when the clipons are on, the aluminum strap is sandwiched. I'll have to see how well it works with just the bolts...

poured some Seafoam in it, ran it until op temp. pulled the battery. tested coolant. and then gave her a nice smooth clean and polish for the winter.

then i moved on to the next season of sports, sleds! pulled the carbs off my RMK and did the same for my dad's sled. compared jets and specs. put mine back on and fired it off. need to get bigger jets for my dad's RMK.

probably is. if i'm catching **** for that i've got much bigger things to worry about.
