I will really miss this little guy, definitely the best all-around bike in the world.

 

Dropped 3 ounces of SeaFoam in it and rode it to work for the fifth work day in a row.

 

Finally dropped the engine out.


Then proceeded down the long frustrating road to transmission town.


And, gratuitously, 1/3rd of an engine in a box.

 

Just got to thinking how long I've had the SV, so went and borrowed google to look it up...

945 days. I'm really close to 40k miles on the bike now, so (less the 6500 miles that was on it at the time) that's an average of 35 miles a day.

Whee!

Except for tonight's commute home, which is going to be wet. Boo. :-(

 

Lucked out so far and only sprinkles on the way to my study location. Stormy weather makes for wonderful sunsets though.

 

Fixed my oil leak and rode to work!

Turns out the stator cable rubber oil stop is a directional piece and has to be oriented a certain way. Who knew right!

Raised the shift lever a little to make it easier to get the toe of my new boot under it to shift up. The All Road boots are considerably stiffer than the Tourmaster Response boots I was wearing before.

 

Watched the snow fall on its little home as it sleeps.

Installed a FendaExtenda.

Haven't put the fender back on thanks to the OEM diagrams being wrong. It is a 6mm hex head socket, not a hex bolt. To the hardware store!

Also ripped off the lees-than-useful insulation on the underside of the tank. I was starting to fall in some areas.

 

Changed the braking fluid and made an oil change including the filter. getting ready for summer

 

Got some new tires mounted -


OK - I cheated - it's not for my SV project. It's for my Derbi project, though my SV project will have blue wheels also. The SV is next on the list of projects.

That's a really cool build you've got going on there. Can't wait to see the finished product!

 

Wow, the bike sure is lighter without an engine in it.... Wheeled it out of the garage so I could clean chain crap off the frame and swingarm. Got that done so I took the swing arm off and cleaned the linkage and shock. Now I'm repacking the bearings with fresh grease so they're ready to go back in when the engine is done. It looks like the next time I do this I'll need to have new swingarm bearings and at least a left side spacer on standby. They're starting to show signs of wear. Too bad the M4 headers are smack in the way of everything or this would be a lot easier to do every year.

Edit: Boy did that link arm need it. The standard amber colored lithium grease I had used last time had become varying degrees of dark orange and black. repacked it with some white lithium grease I found at O'Riley's. Hopefully it'll survive better.

Changed oil+filter and also the brake fluid. also lowered the front because I got a 70 front tire now. wish it was summer again ;_;

 

Re-installed the auto-tune module and promptly dropped the cap for the posi-lock wire tap. Stupid thing pulled a Houdini. So now, unless someone has a cap laying around, I get to buy a whole pack so I can steal one, single cap.

 

Yesterday in rush hour traffic exceeded 40k miles. Apart from a steering head bearing, nothing but regular maintenance, tires, and chain/sprockets.

 

I got things ready to go get it inspected. Wish me luck!

(Texas inspection stations can sometimes make up their own laws....)

 

Take the inspection guidelines with you incase they want to pull any funny business.

Started working on fixing my fairings. It looks like it will be a long process. But on the good news is that they are not as bad as I thought they would be.

 

The ones that fell off on the freeway? That was you right?...

 

Nope. They where damaged when my wife hit me from behind.
