getting close

needs the stainless lines installed and to figure out a gremlin or two in the gutted harness, mount the rear reservoir on the penske, some new tires (have a non ABS front wheel that the front tire is going on, that wheel is bent anyway) and then body work.

sat on it and thought about how much it would take to get it back on the road with its busted tank, forks, and frame.

is the frame just a write off or is it actually damaged? if it's just cosmetic and insurance wrote it off, can you say track bike?!!

Cleaned the chain. I've always used Maxim Chain Wax. It sprays on as a liquid then dries to be super thick and a little tacky. I've always just sprayed it on and never really cleaned the chain. I keep the rest of the bike immaculately clean yet for some reason I've just always ignored the chain.

I finally bought some Kerosene and Dupont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant from Lowe's and went at it. It took a while getting all that grime off, but hopefully it's worth it. Now I realize I should have taken before and after pics. Oh well, it looks better :)

It's still doesn't feel normal to me, I look at it and think I need to lube the chain. I mean how can it be lubed if you can't see anything :p

Now it just needs to stop raining so I can ride :angry4:

Looks awesome. How many miles on that chain/sprockets combo?

just did the exact same thing last night (Kerosene + Dupont + 08SV :D)

^ at that mileage i would be worried if it was showing ware, mine has 18k on the chain and sprockets, they look fine apart from surface rust (removing it at the moment)

Generally on stock equipment you're going to get kinks/hard spots in the chain before your put any significant wear on the chain/sprockets. My zx6 has 12 000k miles and has a hard spot or two in it from less then awesome maintenance last summer.

my sv is still on stock chain no hard spots or any thing like that, but i do go over the top on lube ;)

Changed my front turn signals. Guy I bought it from had aftermarket ones and the bulb burnt out. It was a dual filament and I couldn't find a replacement bulb, so the entire thing had to be changed.

- Got it up on the stands.
- Removed the wheels
- New tires mounted and balanced (Dunlop Q2). The tires I replaced we manufactured in 1998 and 2001. I have no idea where the previous owner got them.
- Cleaned and lubed the chain
- Remounted the wheels
- Cleaned everything I could reach
- Drained the oil
- Replaced the oil filter
- Installed a new alternator cover gasket. This job was overreaching my skills. I don't think I messed anything up, but I about lost it when the idle/reduction gear shaft fell out. I'm hoping this will stop the drips.

In all, it was a very busy day.
