I found the bike more responsive with a 2006+ Sv1000 snorkle in the airbox rather than none at all... and both no snorkel or the 1000 snorkel in the SV650 is waaaaaaay better than the stock choked intake... especially if you go to an aftermarket exhaust and a power commander...

I think the best thing any 2nd gen owner can do is pull that d a m n intake off the 650 air box... and get a 1000k for it... or just leave it off

I have this same setup (although my PCIII is unplugged right now). I haven't figured out what to do with my stock snorkel though. I was debating on taking it off today on my lunch break.

My bike was running rich w/ the PCIII connected, so maybe a little more air will help her out..

I recollected on my late SV, its been 5 months since I totaled it and broke my ankle. The weather is making me want to ride so bad. Still can't hold the bike up with my ankle though, otherwise I would be out one of the bikes. I miss my SV. :(

Busy day today.

Started by installing my frame sliders. Ironically, I almost dropped the bike in the process. The kickstand somehow went up while I was moving it a few feet forward to gain some working space, and when I was setting it down/walking away the kickstand wasn't down anymore. Luckily I saved it.

Checked the air filter.

Adjusted idle. It was at 2k for some reason.

Adjusted TPS. The whatever happens was happening at close to 3500 RPM. Can't wait to see the result. Unfortunately all the work I did required quite a few beers, so I am unable to try it out for now.

Changed the plugs.

Synced the throttle bodies.

Changed brake fluid.

Still to do after dinner break is over: clean chain.

Somewhere there is a writeup on the SV650 snorkel vs no snorkel vs sv1000 snorkel...

Lift the tank, take the top off the airbox and carefully wiggle the rubber snorkel out of the cover... if it is warm (take it inside and let it warm up nicely) and it will come out.. probably even easier if you were to run it under the warm tap I didn't need to but some people had a bit of difficulty getting it out.... probably this is on the older SVs as they have had time for the rubber to age a bit more and stiffen up.

The link below talks about it a bit

I wouldn't cut up the airbox unless you are racing it... some who have done that found it ran weird afterward.... I guess you could get a spare airbox top and screw with it..

the late model SV1000 snorkle worked great for me... I think the 2005 and earlier sv1000 snorkels are longer so I went with the shorter one out of a 2006 or 2007 sv1000.

Is there a write-up on this? Is it an easy bolt-on?

Today was front tire day. I took off a worn out Michelin Pilot Power and replaced it with a Pilot Road 2. Now I have a matching set of tires for the first time in quite a while. The Pilot Power lasted 7K miles. I balanced the new tire with Dyna Beads. I've been using them for about 11K miles and they work great.

While I was working on the front end of the bike, I checked the fork oil level and reduced it by 5mm to try and get more travel out of the front end.

I rotated the handlebars as low as I could without hitting the tank at full lock.

I get to ride tomorrow. ;D

Cleaned the bugs off and checked the chain.
Chain fairly clean now. What a f'n mess.
watched it get rained on.

:(
Washed the bug guts and pollen off it.
This thread has become the most boring thread on svr. There are more posts like the ones above than real posts that people want to read. I want to hear about you swapping parts. I want to hear about you crashing. Nobody gives a sh!t about you staring at your bike, or washing it, or wishing the rain would go away. This thread has become post-whore central. "Hey everybody, want to rack up your post count, come to this thread!" I seriously doubt this is what the OP had in mind, and it makes an otherwise interesting thread, incredibly dull.

Wiped it down and inspected it for more parts that are needed to buy after that wreck. Surprise. Need new rearsets. New frame sliders.

Ordered rearsets from SVracingparts. Thanks guys. you are becoming my heros.

Ordered nylon stock to make some custom frame sliders.

Quit you whining!

I ended up taking it out this weekend at the MD maintenance day. You can definitely notice a sound difference- it's like a snappy sound. I can't decide if I like it.

When normally cruising it only makes noise at a couple RPM ranges. It does sound great when WOT though!!

I also pulled the PCIIIusb off the bike. Sending it in to dynojet for warranty work today. Hopefully that fixes it running rich and I can get it back on the bike. I want to see if it's a noticeable difference...
