Nope. Last time I checked, 16F and 43R is way lower gearing than 17F and 40R. Thus, making it reach it's top speed faster and lowering the top speed considerably.

Maybe you should be taking crazy pills...

Ah! I forgot you're on the 1000. 1st gear and probably 2nd gear must be useless for you.

Oil and filter change yesterday. The SV got its first transfusion of Rotella 5W40 full synthetic. Much nicer start ups on 20 F mornings and the engine revs up nicer when at temp. The old 15W40 spilled out of the filter like some kind of horrible thick black goo - not the best for bearings I'm sure!

1st definitely isn't required for taking off anymore. It's still pretty functional but shifting does come alot quicker with the lower gearing and it doesn't take very long at all to hit 6th. 4th used to be a good gear for around town. Now 5th has taken it's place. Top speed has obviously suffered as well as fuel mileage but my style of riding is suited more to accellerating out of the twisties, not balls-to-the-wall speed. It'll still go as fast as I want to go. Along with some fine tuning of the suspension, it made the bike a real pleasure to ride. Gotta get a speedohealer soon though. Just out of curiousity, what is the stock gearing on the 650's?

Well, nothing to my SV, but grip heaters and Progrip 719's on his R6. He's enjoying them on his ride home right now!

Sounds like you just stepped down every gear which basically gave you a 5spd transmission. I believe the stock gearing is 15/44 for the naked and 15/45 for the faired or it changed so they were all 15/45 in 2005 or something.

Well, not exactly. It's not like I stopped using first gear or anything. I just traded a little top speed for some extra accelleration. The 15/45 1s pretty dang low. I would have to run a 48T rear with my 16T front to get that low. No wonder you 650 guys don't get better mileage. Those things are geared for pulling stumps! Mine wants to carry the front tire through 3rd gear already. With a 3:1 ratio, I would never keep the front end down.

Okay, then you have a 6spd like a big bobtail - L, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ;)

The 650, if ridden nicely gets me 55mpg but I work it over pretty good and get 45mpg. These smaller motors need shorter gearing to accelerate - they just don't make the torque to pull taller gears like your bike. They'll barely power-wheelie in 1st.

i spent too much money today and yesterday. thats what

Washed the salt off of her, TWICE!

Rode to work, it was 30* and the road was wet. The State decided to put a huge amount of salt all down the canyon road I ride to work. I didn't see any sign of frost on the roadway off to the side where there was no salt and I don't see how the road could freeze when we are still getting highs above 40*...

Anyway, got to work (it was now raining) and let the bike cool off before I brought it inside my shop. After I brought it inside, I noticed salt all over the engine, oil cooler, swing arm, brakes, etc.

Took her outside and hosed her down.

Got home from work and noticed more salt, just less of it.... hosed her off again.

I hope I can ride tomorrow! ;D

30 A. inline fuse and eyelet terminals on my D'Ecosse mod, fresh plugs and removed some of the oil my bro had overfilled it with. Then wash and Autosol'd it. Then wished I was off crutches so I could ride it.

Nothing. I still am not able to ride but I'm going to the International Motorcycle Show in San Mateo this weekend. I'll be sitting on a lot of bikes there and drooling of course! :)

And purchased tickets for the MotoGP at Laguna-Seca in July! :)
