Finally installed motosliders I bought back in May...the install went well but I definitely missed where they said in the install instructions that I'd need a deep 19mm socket. I had to back off the nut after I smeared blue loctite on it. The nut that was supposed to have red loctite spun right off in the process. Quick trip to HomeDepot and all went on well, blue loctite for both sides. Big thanks to whomever mentioned low cost tools at habor freight tools. torque wrench (maybe not the best quality) was $15 vs. $75 at HD.

 

Today I have finally officially named my bike ('02 silver SV650S with lower fairings).

I call her the Blue Light Special.

Why? The previous owner had put on:
1. blue LEDs for instrument panel highlighting (switchable on/off)
2. blue LEDs on the forward-facing ... fog lights I guess they are?
3. blue LEDs under the front fairing for front-wheel-top highlights (switchable on/off)
4. blue LED strip under the rear fender (switchable on/off)
5. blue LED bars on the left and right side, diagonally following the bike's lines up towards the front (switchable on/off)
6. blue LED rear turn signals
7. (and here's the kicker) blue LED flashers for valve caps that flash when they're vibrated/moved.

Turn all this on and I'm absolutely certain you can see me six miles away at night.
I have literally had more than one ten-year-old yell at me that my bike was "sooo cool" as I rode past at dusk....

Thus, Blue Light Special.

I used it to pick up tools for my cage repairs today.

Cage is fixed...mission successful.

 

God I hope not....I have very conservative riding gear. Matte black Arai Vector, nice MX summer gloves with carbon knuckles, nice black TCX touring boots, black/yellow-striped Olympia jacket (not a decal to be seen), black Fieldsheer pants...


I bought the bike because of its solid fundamentals...and was going to just remove all the tacky LED stuff.

But the very very sad thing is: (whispers) I'm starting to like it.
Well, everything except the wheel valve cap LEDs -- I can't imagine what it looks like when my wheels trace out glowing blue circles while riding down the road at night....

 

I swear this guy had a motorcycle too. Can't find a picture of it though..

 

today i got to ride back from a friend's lake cabin. it's a nice 55 mile loop with some really good twisties that i have become to know very well. meant to clean and polish her but by the time i got home this afternoon i laid down and took a nap for too long.

 

I just got to where I was enjoying the bike after going over it and fixing a few things...guess it's time to look into lighting changes.

I thought the same thing about my M4... but after a thousand or two km on the bike I think it mellowed out some...

Then again I have a VZ800 Marauder with Cobra Drag Pipes now... so perhaps the obscene loudness of the cobras on the Marauder have conditioned me against it...

But.. even then... I still think it has mellowed out so it is not quite as loud now... I don't fear the cops now when I ride beside them... nor have they given me a second look... but the marauder... I try not to drive that later in the evening or early mornings... sure it is not harley loud... but it is close.

Finished up the cam swap and rejetting. Got everything reassembled. Took it for a ride. Still needs work. Surges and sputters under WOT and bucks at high rpms. Anyone have a suggestion?

 

went for an awesome ride with 3 of my coworkers around long lake out of spokanem wa. it's a relaxing and exciting 60 mile loop with great corners and very little traffic.

 

That's a shame. I like the look of that M4 but I'm not wanting loud.

 

After a few thousand km on the bike with a full m4 I have to say it is no nearly as loud as the Hindle I had on my 99 SV... I also think it has mellowed out some after a few miles on it...

I'd say it is about right volume wise... it could be lower in pitch... but that would make it a hindle... those things are great untill you open the throttle wide... after wich they scream bloody murder... but up to 6000rpm they are pretty civil..


Maybe I have got used to eardrum pounding cobra exhausts on my VZ800 Marauder... but I still think it is more mellow than when I first got it...

It is loud.. sure... but not obnoxious... and the cops shouldn't bother you about it...


you should hear my marauder vs the SV.... the drag cobra pipes are nasty.... not as bad as a Harley with drags perhaps... but it is loud none the less... my SV with the M4 is tame in comparison....


The Yosh r3 is a wussy sound not much better than the stocker.... the hindle is loud when you get on it... the M4.. is pretty good all around... once you get used to it... loud enough not to be too obnoxious... but not too quiet to be Yosh or stock quiet.... cops will be fine with it unless you go 7000-10,000rpm with it near them.... in wich case you deserve more than a noise ticket

I can't wait to hear mine after 25,000km more on the odometer.... my hindle was sweet after 30,000km...

 

Brought it in the house to do some wiring work.

Well... I found out my rear turn signals weren't working last night (Thank you, Mister Cop. >.< ) and so I've been working on moving the front ones I have installed to the rear and ordering flushmounts for the front.

Oh, and put the new frame slider pucks on, too.

After a long time "Under repair/construction" my bike is Legitly back up. Only thing I need to work on now is the dent/scratches on the Tank. MAN I MISSED RIDING

 

Looked at my nice new tires and tried to figure out how to get them to MD Saturday.

Pulled out the carbs and put them back 3 times. Removed the slides even more times. Lots of trial and error trying to get the bike to run propery. Close, but no cigar.

 

Just got some Cortech bags from infinotize, and went for a ride. Ended up getting soaked the 20 min rainstorm, and then washed the bike.

 

I poured BB's in my Vortex clip ons in an attempt to lessen the vibrations. We'll see if it helps tomorrow.

old worn out stock stuff. oil smelled good but was quite dark.

 

Got reflective red rim tapes today.Put the back ones on,now the frot needs to be done tommorow.Post pics when done.Sdoobs the oil in my 06 was dark to,think it`s the way that oils colored.

well some oils come in different colors. kawasaki has a 10w40 that looks exactly like coolant, it is a neon green that is nearly see through. can am - brp has 10w40 that is golden like honey. the fork oil i put in today for maxima 10w and it was clear. obviously, once oil has been used for awhile it changes colors because of use and whatnot. i didn't know what to expect from it. the left fork was a dark brown and the right side was a distinctive burgandy or plum color. they were distinctively different.

 

Put the Puig windscreen back on my bike, yay!

The oil out of mine is burgundy bordering on brown.Maybe the PO replaced the oil in one fork?Yeah the Maxima I put in when I did the Intinators was crear to.Done other forks,can only remember seeing red oil.
