Rather than try and post in each new thread, I'd like to throw out a blanket " Welcome" to all our new SVriders. Be sure to use the search function for questions that probably have been answered many times, and of course be sure to check this out as well www.nationalsvrally.org

Also, look for us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/pages/National-SV-Rally/128476853885855

ENJOY !!

Hi everyone,

After selling my old trusty first gen SV about 10 years ago, I decided to get back on the Sv last year.
I've ridden a couple of different bikes in the meantime, mainly a z750 and vfr VTEC.

Bought the Sv pretty much completely stock, but not much of the stock parts are left on the bike :) I'll try to do a nice writeup of what's been done and what I'm working on.

Hello out there in SV land,

Randle Bain of Waller, Texas. Been riding quite a awhile but am looking for a midweight for the shop.

Thankfully there are a few good choices out there today. I want something with:
handle bars
narrow
good handling
good brakes
good power to weight ratio

The SV650 is at the top of the list but contenders include, MT07, Ducati Monster, Triumph 660.

I usually don't mind buying used. Since the SV is considered an entry level motorbike by some it may not have been cared for very well, that makes me a little nervous.

Low mileage units are going for just a few hundred dollars off new. Used offers several advantages if the bike has been cared for. Sometimes a used bike with with all or some of the desired mods can be found giving a very good value.

If used I'm thinking a +2017 to take advantage of the upgrades but wish to avoid the "X" as the bars are a bit low for my taste.

Most bikes respond well to the following changes. I would bet they are discussed here in some detail:
braided brakes lines
better pads
suspension, front and rear
exhaust
air cleaner
tuner

Your thoughts are most welcome.

Randle

Hi,

I'm new here. Just got a 2017 and am interested in learning more about the bike from the community.
Re: WELCOME NOOBS !!

Hello, the name is Jared. I ride an SV650S, Yellow with black frame 05. I live in the collin county area. I am always riding around town. I would like to meet up with another Sv rider in the area. This is my only transpertaion, so I am always on it. I like to joy ride and go out to the country and ride alot out there. If anyone wants to find some good trails, I might know of some you might like, maybe. Hope to see someone around.
Welcome Jared..a bit far for me to travel for a meet up 😁..Hopefully you’ll get to meet up with some other SV riders..I belong to a couple of rider groups and it’s always a joy to get out with them..We have been lucky to be able to fit some tours of Spain and Portugal in. Brilliant roads.food, people and scenery 😁
Hi from sw Wales, UK. Am hoping to pick up tips on lowering and all that comes with picking up an old model.
Hi all, checking in from Belgium.

I've got my driving license and my SV for almost one year now and really love it. Just need a bit more confidence to really push it down but I'm working on that.

Looking forward to learning new things and tips on how I can improve myself, my riding and my bike. Like which new seat to by for instance.

Welcome to SVR Rob, and welcome back to motorcycling. That's a good looking bike. Enjoy the ride, and contribute often.
Hey all,
Buying my first SV650 tomorrow. I've had tons of bikes since I was 15 and have been SV curious for a long time now. Bought my second '80 XT500 a year ago and absolutely love it. It's a beast and I don't think I'll ever find a bike I enjoy riding as much. But happened to look up SV's on Craigslist yesterday and found a '02 that's just been fully serviced by the best shop around for $2500 and am picking it up tomorrow. Comes w a Givi top case and fairing. I've always hated top cases but rented a bike last year which had one and it completely converted me to a believer.

Seems like a good crowd here and am looking forward to tricks, hints and laughs.

Cheers!

Welcome to SVR! Post some pics when you get her. Your affair with the XT500 reminded me of my first encounter with a thumper. My father owned a Yamaha dealership in the 70s-80s (yes, a spoiled childhood). We had a large motocross team, and were always able to take the first rides of the new models. The TT500 was one of those, and it was a beast. The first time I raced it in the open class I destroyed everyone. It was insanely fast, but weighed 1,000 pounds and handled like shit. But on the straights it was hold on tight. Lotsa fun.

Lucky.....I'm still a Yamaha guy. Absolutely love the handling of the XT. Feels perfect for tearing around the city and up in the twisty's. I'm just over long trips on old, small bikes. I rode an RD350 all over Western Colorado. A WR250R from the Bay Area to Saline Valley a couple times. And did the Sheetiron 300 on my old XT. The Sheetiron was particularly rough. Ha

But jump forward to today and I can already tell from the little bit of riding I was able to get in (new tires/bike) that I like the SV. This bike feels a lot easier to throw around than any of the other "large" bikes I've had (929, GSXR750 even my old SM610). Can't wait to break in the tires and get used to the weight.

Here are the two currently in the garage.

You've got a beautiful stable. That XT looks cherry.
Hello all,

I am hoping this is a good place to start/continue looking. I made a mistake when I was younger, short version, cosigned on a bike, signer defaulted, never told me, collections, court case, bike never found, supposed sold in 2007/2008 no title as a track bike.

Here are the details, it is red with the fairings:

Plaintiff is entitled to immediate possession of the following described property: 2007 Suzuki SV 650 Motorcycle and all key Vin: JS1VP53A072102250

If anyone has any knowledge of this bike, I would very much appreciate it.
Just a club racer looking for some parts. Have a 2008 SV that I fully track prepped, converted to gsxr rear wheel, and fab’d a custom subframe for improved ergonomics.

@mad8vskillz would be the guy you‘d want to talk to…
Good morning from UK. Been hanging my nose over the SV for 4 years. I have a cb500f, faultless other than the horse power. The SV is £5,999 new 2022 model pre reg. I will get a road test, no doubt the seat is hard, I am bothered by how it carries it's weight, the CB is 189kg but it's like a toy to ride. I will find all this out on road test. The other thing I would like to ask is about fuel economy, now Honda quote 80mpg, my CB
never returns less than 76mpg no matter how you ride. The SV is quoted at 68.8, can I expect 56mpg at worst or not. Or if I was to ride mid revs keeping it under say 80mph what could I expect from a new bike. Thanks for your time.
@Adios500 The CB is a nice bike. Almost went for one myself. The Honda is immediately more comfortable, but I’ve grown to like the SV more than I thought I would. The seat is actually not so bad, though I may be well-padded enough to help things! 😄 As for fuel economy, when I’m riding the A and B roads at 40-60mph, this thing feels like it could run forever. I’ve done almost 2 hour stretches where the range indicator says almost the same number as what I’d left with! On the highway, though… Maybe I’m just being picky in comparison, but it seems to DRINK fuel at 70+MPH…
Hi Troy, thanks for the reply. I just spoke with a local family run Suzuki dealer and the chat was positive. He said it's light to lift off the stand, narrow in comparison with the Honda. And they sell to training schools who get good economy. He said the V Strom they sell have had reports of 75mpg on motorway at steady 70mph. So he has got a demonstrator I can try. Servicing is cheap compared with Honda. Plus 3y warranty.
