"Service Manual Quote
1. Lift Fuel tank...
2. Ingition switch on
3. Disconnect the water temperature switch lead coupler.
4. Check if water temperature indicator lights up when
grounding the the lead wire coming from the main
wiring harness with a jumper wire."

Can you please tell me what 4. means?
I just want to check to see if the Water Temp indicator light works.
Thanks

Pull the plug off the temp sender, stick a piece of wire or the tip of a screwdriver in it and touch that to the thermostat housing. The light should come on.

The wire coming into the sender is 12v + coming down from the indicator light. The switch is normally open -no current flow- but above a certain temp the contacts close, providing a path to ground which completes the circuit and lights the light.
