I'd like to go. I never made it to an official rally but a couple of friends and I were just talking about doing a trip like this.
Any rally veterans have recommendations for transportation/lodging/etc? I'm in southeast Virginia.

it's basically get what you can get... when we were big, we used to get a bunch of cabins at Fontana, but lately with a small group it's just whatever AirBnB fits us

transportation? it's pretty straightforward tow your bike or ride it down. save your maps or use gps because there are plenty of spots without cell coverage so you may not get the best location using googlemaps on your phone

If you can slab over to the Blue Ridge Parkway, that's a nice ride (not a speedy one 50 mph most of the way) to past Asheville and then west on 23, 19,74,28. Along the way you might like to stop in Maggie Valley at Wheels Before Time, a very cool vintage auto/motorcycle museum. (There's a hotel/ccasino in Maggie Val, again possible rooms)
NC 28 takes you past Fontana Village, (cabins and hotel). You and your friends might be able to get rooms/cabin. That was the locus for the formal Rallys (In fabled days of yore)
West on 28 takes you to US 129, "The Tail of the Dragon." Google "Tail Dragon accommodations" and you might find some places to stay.
Robbinsville (~20 miles south 28 -> 143 from Fontana or 28 -> 129 from Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort at 129/28 junction. They may have rooms as well. Lots of Harleys) should have some places to stay and connects to the Cherohala Skyway, another epic ride. US 129 also runs through Robbinsville from the 129-28 junction. Vonore (at the end of the Cherohala) and Maryville (on US 129 closer to the Knoxville airport) TN are larger towns on arterial highways and should have lots of motels, as well as BnB type places.

If you don't want to take the time to ride the Parkway, I-85 to I-40 will get you to Asheville more promptly.

Ride well and be happy.

Happy to report there will be at least 6 of us OG's back again the first week of June for the ongoing B.Y.O.R. this year.

We've got 2 cabins down near the general store in Fontana booked.

Such a nice area for riding. I've never braved the crowds in June but hopefully you guys won't run into too many flotillas of garbage wagons. I like Tsali campground outside of Almond quite a bit, full bathrooms and well maintained sites.

there's the smoky mountain crawl the same weekend (herds of groms and ruckuses) but they're easy enough to get around (or way faster than we are)
