I am going down to purchase my first SV650 tomorrow. I am in the process of reading the Used Motorcycle Evaluation Guide that's linked to this site (gotta be a little sneaky with it while I am at work). I am looking at a red '05 or '06 SV650 with about 5k miles. Can you guys tell me what service should of been done to it, and any other questions I should ask.

I just wanna make sure I get all my info correct from the pro's here.

Thanks, I am excited~!

With that few miles you just want to check for regular oil changes. Make sure that it is clean and looks well cared for. Make sure that it has not been started and warmed up before you get there and look for signs of stunting or wheelies ( leaking fork seals). Otherwise with that few miles they didn't have much required.
Hi Amirath, Welcome to SVR. Look it over good. Just an oil change and check for anything loose. Should be fine and clean hopefully. Good luck!
I just got a red 06, I did a oil change on it, and checked bolts. The chain is on the verge of needing adjustment, and I might do that this week.

Are you looking at a S or the better Naked?;D
The first service is at 600 miles or 1 month; this one is very important. The oil and filter should have been changed at that time and everything should have been checked for tightness and adjustment. The second scheduled service is at 4000 miles or 6 months, basically an oil change and check-over. Both of these should have been done on the bikes you mentioned or you should walk away. Ask to see the service records.

This.

Also, if the tires are original I'd replace them first thing. If the bike hasn't been ridden in a while I'd change the oil too.
The bike I am looking at is the Naked version, This info is so great, I keep getting more excited by the moment

With only 5k miles there really isn't much that an owner could have screwed up in that short time. 600 mile and 3k service is all that would have been done at a dealer and most of those is just oil changes and bolt checking. 5 or 6 chain cleanings and adjustments, checking the tire PSI and that's about it.

Check the lights, signals, brake lights, horn and cluster to make sure they work. Check the oil level to see if it's correct. Ask the guy about how often he/she cleaned the chain and for any paperwork that could have shown service done at a shop or dealer. Check the chain and whole bike for rust or signs of neglect or abuse and have him fire it up and ride it for you if he/she won't let you test ride it.

If everything checks out and the price is good, buy it, mod it and be one with us. Pretty simple.

:)
