I don't see any recent ride report type thread, consider posting about yours. Here is my report from today, first good ride on my brand new SV650. First good ride because I bought it Friday and rode home 68 miles, mostly freeway.

Today was 127 miles out along Mulholland Hwy and through some of the canyons including some real tight twisties. Warm in the mountains, overcast and cold in my mesh gear along the coast this AM. Hot and above 90F coming back home to the Valley. Good ride and not much traffic on the good roads.

The thing handles really well in twisties. In the straight bits I found myself short shifting rapidly, trying to keep it under or not much over 5000 RPM. There's no comparison in power to the Monster 1200 I just sold, but it handles easier in the tight stuff and at slow speeds. Specs say it weighs 30 pounds less, and wheelbase is 56.9" vs 59.6" for the Monster. Seat height is a little higher. I am all of 29" inseam and about 140 pounds plus gear, so it is right in my size range.

Can't really say it is a long term keeper after only 195 miles, but so far so good. The Monster had excessive and unnecessary power levels, but that was part of the fun. I think I will be OK with the reduction in power. No need to go 0 - 100 MPH in 4 seconds or whatever craziness. Riding for 40 years now, so did not use all the Monstrous power anyway.

Plus I believe it will be quite a bit less dollar intensive to operate, maintain, insure. First gas fill up today (was full when I got it), showing 188 on odo took 2.814 gallons to pump auto shutoff, so 66.8 MPG. On regular not premium. :D

Ordered swingarm spools, luggage rack, oil filter, crush washers, and gotta have the T shirt. Things I like I tend to keep a long time, so we'll see how this goes. Love it so far. No thread is complete without pics.

Added 125 miles today, up to 321. Little Tujunga Canyon Rd, Soledad Cy, Boquet Cyn which has lots of nice fresh pavement, and Little TJ again in the other direction. Got a bottle of some Strawberry Kiwi drink. Two or 3 more Sunday rides and it should be first service time. It's not a horse, I did not tie it to the railing. Good times. :)

The discoloration on the header pipe is beautiful.
I agree with Flash, beautiful bike Lee.
I agree, but might be biased. It's 100% stock in that pic.
The pipe turned those colors coming home from the dealer.
I got it with 1 mile, and got home it had 70 some iirc.

It truly is a magical moment, the one you are describing. The bonding ritual was complete when your bike accepted your connection. It's header pipe changed to crimson purple in response.
Don’t think mine changed at all. Maybe it doesn’t like me… 😉

Some of the green is fading to golden in the canyon. Went down to Bakersfield past the Ag areas to Hart Memorial Park along the river. Nice city park with a man made lake and the river runs along the edge. Water was flowing pretty fast but smooth in that area. Still raging whitewater upstream. Should have put on a warmer shirt, but nice day for a ride.

Reminds me of the Pre-PC days and I got a slap off a Girlfriend. She said ," You only want me for my body! " . I replied ," No!. I love your brains, both of them " :D

It's pretty darn quiet. Except when the fighter jets go over. We seem to be along their flight path for training / practice out of Edwards AFB and/or maybe China Lake. Those things are LOUD, but go away fast.

Soon we will see how it goes when the barbarian tourist hoards arrive and fill the many campgrounds around here.

Another ride through Havilah and Twin Oaks and southish along Caliente Creek Rd. The canyon road there seems to go on and on and on with very few houses or traffic. Nice pavement, good scenery, just ride and ride. Looks like in a few miles I would have been to Caliente. Google maps really sucks in this area. Can you make the roads a contrasting color already?

Took a while on the computer to suss out where I had been. Google map on my phone at the scene showed a white area, a green area, and it looked like the road ended a ways back. Totally useless. Good ride and over 60 mpg by my math, bike says mid 50's. Filled up at the same station, same pump, and they got new pumps recently. That's about as consistent as I can be with that.

Turnaround point

The bike is a real tank. :ROFLMAO:

No, it's not actually bigger than a retired M48 Patton tank.

8 days with no motorcycle ride is too long. But we did take a car trip almost 400 miles one way to AZ. I would not want to do that on the bike in 90 and 100 degree weather.

Today headed north out of Kernville on Mtn 99, expecting the road to still be closed at McNallys about 15 miles up the road like it has been, and like googoo still says it is. Wrong again. Road was open to Johnsondale, and I went west then north, past the Trail of 100 Giants. A few miles past that a sign said 1 lane road ahead and it was a lot of gravel. Decided that was a good place to turn around, had done about 46 miles from home. Almost no traffic. Really nice ride, even though there is a pretty large burn scar from 2 years ago. Small plants are green but a lot of trees are just black sticks. Pretty sad. But no need for me to dwell on it.

I'm sure there will be road construction up there this summer. The electric message sign by Johsondale said it starts next week.

North Fork of Kern River today, Mtn 99 above McNallys.
Took a short video, the water rages, but now YT says it needs to be at least 25 seconds long. Doh.

You can upload short videos the free imaging host I use,

Do you have a preference for riding with the top case or without?
