I'm thinking about purchasing the equipment to mount and balance my own tires. I'm getting sick of paying the prices at the dealer.
What kind of equipment are people using and where is the best place to get it?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

How tall is that changer? I don't have a garage and would need to put it in my basement.

Is there any smaller options?

If space is an issue just buy the hitch mount instead of the stand and use your truck. Although if you don't have a vehicle with a hitch that won't work either. We built a stand for ours and it's about 6-7 feet tall in total. It is about 6-8 inches too high though. I'd say 6 feet is plenty though.

After changing many bicycle tires over the years I decided to try to change my rear SV tire. Using the method described above, (2 motorcycle tire irons, and plastic no-mar pieces from a milk bottle, and soapy water,) it went surprisingly smoothly. Would not hesitate to do it again. There are several youtube vids that show how to do it, especially breaking the bead with a 2 X 4 and small chunk of wood. Once you get the hang of it it will go quickly.
