things i learned at the ny show:

1) 2007 cbr600rr is LIGHT. like...unearthly light. absurdly balanced (at least while standing still) and pretty comfy for such a tiny bike. i'm really considering making this my next bike.
2) the victory vision touring bike is freakin huge. it's less comfy than the goldwing, heavier, and certainly less reliable, but the styling is even cooler in person once you get past the vast scale of the thing
3) harleys are heavy. that is all. (so are the victorys, actually). all the metric cruisers felt a zillion times lighter and more comfortable than anything by harley or victory. they're definitely pretty though
4) the royal enfield 500 clubman gt is extra extra sexy up close, it's now competing with the cbr600rr :p
5) the folks at mv agusta are the nicest people on earth. my girl was trying out the f4-1000 when she overbalanced, dumped it and broke the brake lever. we felt terrible and offered to pay for it, but they wouldn't hear of it. she was really embarassed and felt terrible, of course, i tried to cheer her up by telling her how jealous i was of her...not everyone gets to dump a $24,000 bike wthout having to fix it afterwards ;P
6) rossi's M1 is pure sex on two wheels. never having made it to a race before, this was the first chance i got to see the bike up close and...wow. cf rotors mmMMmm

How funny was the Ducati booth? It was closed off from the rest of the displays, almost as if to separate themselves.

I was there at 9:30 and already there was almost a line just to get into the place. An attractive lady at the entrance, checking herself in the mirror. I started to wonder if I was gonna get bounced for not wearing any Ducati clothing or not being "cool enough".

Went in, made a round and was outta there. Did they even have any bikes in there? Or just the $65K desmonsetti (sp) one? Disappointing.

To be honest, compared to Triumph's Speed Triple and the XB12S Buells, the Monsters look pretty plain. Time for Duc to update their nakeds methinks.

I really liked the Buells. Air cooled (no poisonous coolant to change/dump into the environment), belt that is rated to last the life of the bike, with no adjustments or lubricating/cleaning needed. Reinstaling the wheel probably a cinch: no tensioning the chain, no trueing the wheel. Very nice one-off type components and unique style. And a torquey vtwin engine. A lot of good going for it. Gonna have to catch a demo ride...

The one naked SV they had was disappoining. Didn't like that red color. Definitely like the '06 red better.

I think they want to keep the monster the same. It's a cult classic. I don't agree with it.

But as long as they upgrade the technology of the bike without changing the looks it's fine.

The Duc booth was pretty annoying... even with a couple people it was crowded, so once I was in, I just wanted to get out. No room to take pix either. Was there a Triumph booth? I saw the trailer, but didn't see them inside...

I saw two hot lookin' hoochie mamma porn star wanna be chicks walking by at the beginning of the show. That's about as exciting as it got at the show this year. :tard:

I'm gonna have to break the annual tradition next year and just sleep all day if its gonna be like this from now on.

this was my first show and man was i disappointed. i guess coming from the bicycle world & the interbike convention, i had inflated expectations of what i was gonna see. i had delusions of seeing booths from accessory manufacturers, ie. woodcraft, brembo, etc., and instead just saw a bunch of "mom & pop" people selling cheap leather jackets. in terms of the bike booths, sure the ducati booth was crowded & stuffed, but hey, they did have the best looking booth and if their wasn't 500 people crammed into you could see how cool their bikes really are. i mean you see that NCR bike? fu*king dope, son! +1 on vespa's commment on the monster, it's a cult classic & shouldn't be messed with too much. i mean come on, the new 695 has more power than the old M800 monster, plus it's lighter! oh, i was disappointed in not seeing a triumph booth too, but what can you do.

i was a little annoyed there was no triumph display and the ducati booth sucked because it was so tight in there. i went into the ducati booth when it was early and wanted to check it out one more time before i left but it was so packed they opened the back door of the booth to let people out.

Triumph wasn't there. I was referring to a visit to the Duc/Triumph dealer on 6th ave, around spring. The Speed Triple and monsters side by side there.

Don't talk sh!t about my kid's jacket just because you want the same one and can't get it. And it was baby wipes that the sales guy was following us around with, not TP.

Screw that...i pointed them out to Funkdaddy and GF and mentioned that I should have brought my other camera so I could have snapped a quick picture.

She gave me a look of disgust but she got over it.
