My regular DRZ (not the SM) got 60 MPG, so I can't see mileage being a big factor. I really don't get why all three of the others chose to go with 250cc/230cc.

I'd be all over yammi - 6th gear and FI along with a lower weight than drz just DO it for me....
These reasons and the fact that no valve check is needed until 26,000 miles are the reasons I went with the Yamaha WR250X. I got mine for just over 5k. :fiddy:....Looks like it has 28 hp to the wheel and weights in at 299 lbs
The DR-Z comes in at 35 hp and 322 lbs
But with fuel-injection and a bunch of high price motor components, the Yamaha is starting to look better and better

I don't think $6K is too expensive, some people pay around $9K for ktm 690 and they swear it's worth every dimeI have seen them all at my local dealer and I would probably go for the Yamaha, even though it is way too expensive ($6200????).
It has the best stock suspension components and is most dirt-bike-like. The DRZSM is my next vote, I think the extra power would be nice to have. Also too expensive ($6700???).
The Kawi just looks cheap and bland in person, just like a KLR 250 with 17" wheels. ($5300)
The Honda looks even worse than the Kawi in my opinion. ($4750) I don't know why they took the air cooled CRF230, but I guess it a reliable power plant. They should have gone with their CRF250X or CRF450X motor, but they are maintenance pigs.
with a right suspension, FI and 6 gears - I'd choose it over euro bikeA wr450 in street trim using the 250s tech would give the Euro bikes a real run for their money.
hopefully you had insurance?Yeah it sucked.
