temp gauge for SV?

I've wondered if any of those harley style temp gauges with work with a dip stick would work on the SV. Anyone ever heard of that? Don't need one but would like to have the information. Seems like the simplest of installs if one would work.

Thanks

Do you have a gen 1? Cus the gen 2 has the temperature built into the gauge cluster. Even shows you the temperature in degrees. *confused*

this is the 1st gen forum, doh!
I would think he's got a Gen 1 considering this is posted in the 99-02 tech forum. ;)

I guess I'm wondering why? do you have a tendancy to flog the engine before it's fully warm ? other than that, temp is really unnecessary information, if you overheat, the temp light will come on.

the dipstick thing would tell you the oil temperature and not really be comparable say, to the water tmeperature on a 2nd gen SV
I just click new posts and never care where it takes me :)

I am really just wondering how much variation there is in temp, and it would be nice to have something other than an idiot light. The gauges are cheap enough and the install would be simple. Just thought it would be a nice, easy mod.
I've got an oil temp sensor installed on my GEN I.

Is that what you're looking for ???

Daytona makes an auxiliary digital temp gauge - comes complete with its own sender.
Will read in F or C

Also goes by 'Shindy' manufacturer - here's one on EBay

Here's the manufacturers site

Really, both of these are too complex for me. I guess I should just see if a HD dipstick will fit in the SV filler cap.

Thanks

I'd be willing to be that being made for a harley the threads aren't metric

We'll see. I go there for the free eats on "customer" appreciation day anyhow.
Won't the clutch eat it?
Moto Detail sells dipstick oil temp gauges that fit the filler cap. Don't know if they sell them in the US.
Uff, they sell them for £34.95 ???
That's expensive...

Over here, one of those costs 19,95€

Anyway, those doesn't work properly...
They just show about 60°C when the engine is warm.
