Do you have to be at top dead center to remove the cam chain tensioner ?

My clymers doesn't mention it, but I read on here- and I assumed you needed it to be - so that there's no valve pressure on the chain.

Can anyone clarify?

I've got a leaky rear CTT gasket on the rear cylnider & was hoping to just unbolt it and slap a new one on...??

Hey, thanks guys. I find it strange that the clymers doesn't mention it...but I'll stick it at TDC.

update: the clymers does explain to put it at TDC, but it is a few pages earlier. I had to remove the valve cover to verify the compression stroke & that the valves were not under pressure.
