Hey Everyone,

Do any of you know much about T.R.E.s. Do they cause any harm to motorcycle engines? What are the pros and the cons? Also, do these work on SVs? I am not very savy when it comes to mechanics, so any info would be helpful.

Thanks

There are many, many threads about TREs. Here is but one:

http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=55272

I have one installed in my '07. Many people will tell you they found 10 extra horsepower when they added a TRE, while others will tell you they noticed nothing.

Personally, I noticed a very subtle difference with the TRE, in that the throttle response feels a tiny bit more responsive, crisper. But keep in mind that the TRE only works in the first 1/2 throttle: once you twist the throttle past the 1/2 way mark, the timing isn't being retarded anyway so the TRE is not doing anything at this point. If you're looking for more power, just twist your throttle wide open instead.

There is no damage being done to your bike with a TRE. Suzuki purposely retards the timing of your ignition as a way to meet exhaust emissions and noise pollution standards. A TRE simply overrides this, making your engine run the way it should. Just don't expect a big difference. It's barely noticeable, if at all (and you really need to be paying attention before and after).

Here you go man, 92westshady is making them for cheap and he gives a great explanation on how they work:

Thanks for the referral :)!
Hey nhlstar if you have any questions that aren't answered in my thread let me know.
My TREs offer the same benefits of others on the market (smoother acceleration and better throttle response and an added bit of low end torque) at 1/5th the price. Shoot me a PM if you want to purchase one!

Thanks,
- Steve

I had no idea there was another homegrown TRE building spree happening. I bought mine from Nick Green last fall. The switchable option surely seems interesting & worthwhile.

there are many versions, make sure you research them thoroughly. a simple google search of the term TRE will bring you mucho info! there are many styles that have been proven and with each style any abnormalty that someone doesnt like is brought up for discussion.

it seems that the most widely accepted has been 92westshady's. as i recall there were no abnormalities mentioned, whereas some have complained of cold starts or high idles with other versions. i can also vouche that he cant be profitting a heap of money at his prices unless he has a hookup! lol

not to threadjack, but if you are in no hurry, wadester and i will be offering a unit that is a gear position indicator and aTRE in one. it will however, cost a lil more than shady's obviously.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll look into some of the threads and links that you have all provided and determine whether the addition of a TRE would be worth it for me. I'll keep you posted.
