I'm new to the SV650 but I'm not particularly new to dropping bikes in my garage, moving them out of my garage, while in a camp site, etc. And the SV with it's jutting-out-everywhere radiator and exposed routing for it's plumbing system made me nervous in the service.
So, Monday I ordered crash bars from sw-motech.us.com and they arrived yesterday. $283.95 shipped.

Install takes a half hour. You pull three bolts and replace them with #2, #4, and #11 (in the picture above) You also get to play with the two Allen bolts & nuts #14 & #15 which takes some of the song and dance out of the installation to that point. It never gets difficult but just a bit niggly and laying on the floor at the end, trying to fit an Allen wrench between the bolt and the exhaust.

I used sw-motech bars on a Honda CB500X I dumped, crashed, dropped and misused for maybe seven years and never had a problem outside bent shift levers and brake pedals.

I don't know the specific weight of this kit. The UPS box that it arrived in said the shipping package weighed 11 lbs.

One person can easily do this install though when it comes to torquing that big #2 bolt to 95Nm it might be handy having someone to help stabilize the bike and we all appreciate a 3rd hand when working these projects. But it isn't necessary.

I've lightened this picture some so maybe you can see how the bars look on the bike. I never thought they make a motorbike look better.

I have one of these from a generic brand (it was already expensive enough to import, so f it, steel is steel at the end of the day) for over an year now. Thankfully I never crashed the SV, but I have dropped multiple times in the garage, and they are great. Not only for that but you can use it to jack it if you gonna work on the front suspension, or use to tie the bike when shipping it, and even as a nice place for sport camera (get the front suspension work or targeting the rider to check positioning.

I was also surprised how well they fit the bike, mine has a black frame, so the bars looks like a extension of it, and people who don't know the bike well always ask me if it came with it stock.

Btw, the stock radiator side protection are tough, I have dropped before without the protection bars and they can fool on how hard they are, If I didn't fear sliding in a turn or something I wouldn't even mind the protection bars.

If you have engine bars on you might not need these but I have one as my Gear change lever ( Foldable ) to help prevent Clutch damage if the bike gets dropped. They do them for the Rear brake lever as well,

HTH :)

These would be a waste of money for me because I never drop my bike.

Yuk. Can't you just be more careful? Unless you are a big city rider or courier.
