Sv650 won't start.. Please help guys.

Hi guys.. just last night my 2005 sv650 stopped starting. It has gas in, and most likely needs an oil change which I am planning on doing this week. All electronics work great, the ignition goes, but it does not start. If I give it some gas while it is starting it starts to go but then sputters out. Could you guys help me identify this problem? Thank you.

vacuum leak?
How old is the gas? Has the tank been full most of the time? You could have old gas plus a bunch of condensation in the tank that may be causing the problem. Any rust in the tank?

Does the pump prime when you turn the ignition on?

Have you checked your airbox and air filter?

How old is the battery? Is it cranking strongly? A weak battery can also cause unusual running issues.

Just a few easy things to cross off the list before moving on.
Add: How cold was it and how long has the bike been sitting without starting?

05 is fuel injected and "giving it gas" probably isn't helpful. FI guys need to chime in.

Right - for the most part opening the throttle isn't necessary, though I have heard situations where closed throttle didn't get it started but opening slightly did. If everything is working correctly you shouldn't need to do it.
