I have some gen2 sv650 forks currently in pieces awaiting a rebuild. Please can someone tell me what the green plastic ring is for in the bottom of the stanchion? Are they necessary for correct operation? Can they be replaced as one appears to be broken.

It sits inside the stanchion rather than on the outside.
On a damper rod fork, there's supposed to be a ring inside the stanchion that provides rebound damping. I've personally never seen it, but in the pics, it moves down to provide rebound damping. If it's broken, that may be a problem.

Can you post a picture? If it's what I think it is, yes, you need it. It's not on a parts list because it's an integral part of the fork tube.
