I started up my SV1k for the first time of the season, and it started dripping a good amount of coolant out from the drain hose that comes out of the case below the water pump.

Anybody know what might be causing that?
Is it a problem, or ??

I know on cars the WP will have a weep hole that tells you the WP is worn out, but I doubt that's the issue - with only 8k miles. . . at least I hope that's not the issue.

watch the oil to see if it gets milky. There is a small seal that keeps the coolant jacket from the oil jacket...and the water pump shaft goes right through it. It has been known to wear out. Easy enough to replace if needed.although you do have to take the whole clutch cover off, IIRC.

If its not milky...its a good thing. The hose is just supposed to be an overflow/expansion release..normal to get a drip now and then...any quantity...that is another story.

Have you fired up the bike again? Does it keep happening?
