Italian Ducati Xerox rider Michel Fabrizio claimed victory in World Superbike race 1 after a massive crash led to the race being red flagged.

Fabrizio's team mate Noriyuki Haga claimed second, making it a one-two for the Ducati Xerox squad.

On the final lap American Ben Spies was leading, but he had problems with his bike and dropped off the pace. Spies managed to nurse it over the finish line to take 15th.

Aprilia Racing rider Max Biaggi took third place onboard an Aprilia RSV Factory, followed by Ten Kate Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari in fourth.

The highest placing Brit was Jonathan Rea, who took sixth for the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team.

Race 1 rocked, but we'll be missing Max for a while:

Max Neukirchner breaking his right femur and suffering three broken bones in the lower leg and foot.
And I'm shocked that Troy came out so well from the crash!

Video of Crash from the 1st start:

Haga hit a bird in race 2 and tore his bicep:

“Right at the start of Race 2 I was hit by a bird on my right arm; it hurt a lot and I lost all sensation, with strong pain and pins and needles in my right arm and hand. I tried to continue to race but it was too difficult to ride and as a result I unfortunately fell. Yes it hurts but I should be back in top shape very soon.
The doctors of the Clinica Mobile saw Noriyuki immediately after his accident and Doctor Corbascio declared that Nori has suffered from a severe contusion to his right bicep, but that there are no fractures, just a laceration of the muscle.

didn't biaggi get docked 20 seconds for cutting a corner or something.? I think his official place was like 11th or so in race 1.

Both really good races. I was glad to see Spies smoke everyone after what happened in race 1.

Haga has a huge lead but the season is still early and anything can happen. With 5 straight pole positions, Spies is the fastest out there. He gave away 25 points in Race 1 with that fuel issue (running out of it on the last corner) the way, makes you wonder if someone forgot to top it off prior to red flag restart.

That was my first thought. Would be interesting to know for sure...

99% sure he will get pole in South Africa I just hope that during the races nothing happens to him like at Monza and Valencia. And hopefully whoever did that mistake with the fuel got fired for costing so many valuable points.
