Should I sell?

Ok, I'm a grown man and can make my own decisions, but you're opinion counts. Uncle Sam is shipping me off to the UK this summer for probably 4 years or so. Here's the dilema: Should I sell the Sv and pick up some sweet Euro bike (a big thumper or sport touring bike or maybe a ?) or should I have it shipped over there with me? I put a lot of time and money into it getting it how I like. I'm leaning toward shipping it with me.

What say the masses?

I would say sell, but you're not going to be happy with the value of the US$ once you get there.

It would just be too much of a hassle crating it and bringing it through customs...then having them do all their checks on it on the other side.

I just brought my wife's Honda Rebel on the back of my pickup from Ohio to Ontario and it was miles of red tape. I can't even imagine going to a different continent.

You'll have enough to worry about getting yourself squared away, don't add the customs stuff to your workload. That gives you all sorts of excuses to buy a cool Aprilia or something once you get there.

Off it. Get something over there. Start a new project, find new sources, meet people, get into the local scene. You might find a Motard interesting or a Triumph or BMW, or some Asian bike that isn't imported to the US. Maybe even a brand that we don't have. Your SV has served. Try something new.

bring it with you and bring 2 bikes back

Edit: bring the Sv with you and you have your transportation. "If" you see another bike over there that you would like and you get a good price on it, then make your decision then.

Personally if I had a place that would pay for the shipping, I see no reason why not to take it since it's no money out of my pocket.

The government will ship my bike with my household goods if I want. I'm not worried about customs-type things. My concern is I may have to put the stock pipe and turn signals back on and maybe worry with my headlight. Also, I may want to get something there. I will probably not live on the base, so storing the bike is also a concern. From what I hear, the garages are just big enough to maybe fit a mini cooper inside (if the house has a garage at all). I have about 1-2 months to decide.

The bike is paid, as is my dirtbikes and 4-runner. I'll probably just unload it all but the family car and pick up something when I get there (70% sure at this point).

Also find out how a motorcycle license transfer works. The locals have to go through a two step process and don't get their full license for I believe two years, until then if you have an sv you would have to get it restricted to a lower hp rating. No idea what it's like for people with existing foreign licenses though.
