Low speed maneuver + shoe lace caught on foot peg = bike on it's side.

I swore to myself a year ago that I would stop wearing laced shoes while riding. I've spent all of that time riding with boots.

Put laced shoes on tonight and now I'm paying the price.

All I can say is thank God for frame sliders. They protected everything but the very tip of the exhaust (to clarify: the exhaust is Akrapovic titanium).:facepalm:

Also, the bike essentially kicked me in the balls as I bailed off.

Partly because of extreme embarrassment and partly because of adrenaline, I decided to pick the bike up immediately without really pondering the fact that I was leg lifting a 400 pound hunk of metal and plastic.

So not only do I feel like I've been castrated, my lower back is all kinds of ******.

*sadness and shame. So much shame.

Amazing the catastrophic chain of events leading from a humble shoe lace! Commiserations on the dented titanium, and ego! And for the physical damage... from someone who has a f....d back I feel your pain. And having a gladius who's seat seems designed to combat world population growth by slamming yer family jewels into the tank at every opportunity I know how that feels as well!

The boots i wear has laces..not smart, yet i always tuck them in. That was always a fear of mine. My girlfriend wears sneakers when she rides on the back and I still make her tuck hers in.
Glad your ok..ish. I am now sold on riding boots next year.

This has almost happened to me a couple times. Luckily I noticed it had happened and leaned to the right the first time and the second time I was on a wall so I caught myself. I have officially learned to tuck the laces in before I go out.

Turn around so that your back is to the bike squat lift with your legs. It's really easy! The only problem is going too far and dumping your bike on the other side. Don't do that!

I have Shift street boots that look like regular skate shoes. They're called kicks or something like that. Check em out if you want decent protection, style and safety. Oh, and you should be able to find em fairly cheap. I think I paid a bill.

Surprisingly, I'm pretty sure not a single person witnessed it. It was 2 am in a Walgreens parking lot.

I feel really lucky about that.

I've always been able to either unhook myself or pull my laces untied before it became a falling over problem, but it's been close. Getting new, shorter laces helped so that the loops don't even reach the levers, and then switching to real boots without laces completely solved that issue.

Of course, then I had to remove the peg feelers because they'd catch on my boot-tops.

Um, are we all on the same page here?

All I am saying is that SHIFT brand (not Icon) Kickers motorcycle street boots have a lacing system that helps prevent what happened to the op.

I also happen to know that they have more padding than MY regular street/skate shoes.

I never implied that they were bulletproof.

Sheesh...

Yeah, that is why I won't wear anything but motorcycle boots when I ride. I've ridden with sneakers once or twice or other regular shoes and I always feel naked and unprotected and always seem to have problems operating the controls.
