I was on my way to a track-day today. I left my town at 6 am to ride about 120 miles to the track. Unfortunately it was raining, and 20 miles from home, my SV was running only on the rear cylinder.

Once back home, I inspected the spark plug boot. It was extremely corroded and the spring tab inside to lock onto the spark plug was almost non-existent. The iridium plug I was running looked fine, although a little fouled.

What can be done to help with this issue? I have talked with a friend, and he recalls First Gen SV's having this problem. Dielectric grease will be a must when I fix the spark plug boot.

I do have a new coil and spark plug boot coming from Ebay.

Grease, cleaning out the drain hole, and using a fender extender or rain flap below the radiator all seems to help.
